4.0 out of 5 stars Silver Shadows by Richelle Mead 7 Aug 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
REVIEW CONTAINS SOME SPOILERS.

After the HUGE cliffhanger at the end of The Fiery Heart, I was desperate to get my hands on Silver Shadows. I was desperate to find out what was going to happen to Sydney and whether Adrian and her friends would be able to save her.

After reading Silver Shadows, there’s no denying Sydney’s strength. Honestly, if I had to go through half of the things she went through in this book I’d be rocking in a corner. But not Sydney. She’s an extremely intelligent character and her intelligence definitely came in handy a lot. She figured out what she had to do to survive and she also figured out a way to save the other people who were trapped with her. Sydney is one of my all-time favourite female characters and this book definitely pushed her up the list.

Oh, Adrian. Adrian, Adrian, Adrian. I adore Adrian, but throughout the first half of this book I just wanted to punch him. Repeated punch him in the face for being a selfish jackass. Sydney has been captured by the alchemists and taken god knows where, and instead of trying to help Sydney, Adrian is off getting drunk and partying with another girl while Sydney is hoping Adrian will find her in her dream. But he can’t because he’s drunk. I get that Adrian is struggling with Sydney away, but that does not give him an excuse to act like a complete ass. He eventually redeems himself, and starts acting like his usual, lovable self. But Adrian definitely has a lot of making up to do.

The story line was fantastic – even if I did find parts of it hard to read. Quite a few of the scenes in the rehabilitation centre made my stomach turn and broke my heart, but it was still a fantastic read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth waiting for! 28 Aug 2014

Well we are back in a very dark time for Adrian and especially Sydney. Sydney being captured by the awful Alchemists to make sure she gets re-programmed for her ‘sins’ by being romantically involved with Adrian (Who would object to that…!!)
What a bunch of awful people are there at the Alchemists! I loved how Sydney kept her calm, her wits, her brains and mostly her love for Adrian and the rest of her friends alive. No matter what the conditioning she had to go through, they and mostly Adrian was on the foreground on her mind. How she helped the others within the department etc.

Adrian, sometimes I was jumping up and down and almost shouting: MY HERO! Others I wanted to smack him in the face and shout: WAKE UP AND SMELL THE COFFEE! I didn’t agree how he was with in the Court, but I guess that will have some tail in the last one in the series.

Together they are amazing and still my favourite book couple within the Vampire Academy series.

The Alchemists – what a bunch of &!^*%$^$&. I can’t even describe in words how I despise them, their methods ancient and for absolutely no reason. How dare Zoe and her father turn in Sydney, I hope Zoe realises what she has put Sydney through!

I found that the chapters switching between Sydney and Adrian worked, although sometimes it felt like mini cliffhangers to me gah! I can’t deal with lots of cliffhangers and Richelle Mead is THE inventor of THE cliffhanger! The ending was phenomenal and I can’t wait for the last book to come out.

There were definitely some romance parts in there I didn’t expected and certainly would never have guessed! But loved them nonetheless. I know Sydney and Adrian will have lots more bridges to cross before they will get accepted.

By Jess Hearts Books VINE VOICE

Silver Shadows was a book that I was hugely anticipating not only because I love this world and characters so much but because of *that* agonizing cliff hanger at the end of The Fiery Heart. Silver Shadows was such an emotional rollercoaster to read with plenty of highs and lows for Sydney and Adrian. Once again the book is told in alternate chapters between the two which worked particularly well here with Sydney and Adrian being apart for a large chunk of the book.

Sydney is in the alchemists re-education centre and I have to say that Richelle Mead really impressed me with the world building for this. I was in equal parts fascinated and horrified at just how messed up the alchemists and their methods are. Their punishments for Sydney were really extreme and disturbing to read but at the same time I thought it was really clever how their lessons fit around their morals. Nothing is ever done purely for the shock factor but is appropriate for the alchemist’s beliefs and way of life.

Sydney really impressed me in this book. She’s grown so much and I was so proud of how strong, clever and bad ass she was despite everything she was going through. Adrian however really annoyed me at times. Sydney was being so brave whilst Adrian was off getting drunk and going to parties with a girl who blatantly likes him as more than a friend. I know that’s how Adrian deals with things but I couldn’t help feeling frustrated with him at some points.

The last hundred pages of the book gave me everything I love about this series. There was romance, high action, suspense and plenty of surprises that have really set up the conclusion to this series in the final book The Ruby Circle. I have so many theories but at the same time I have no idea how this is going to play out. February can’t come quickly enough!
