So after reading 'Bloodline' I had to read the sequel as I enjoyed the first book so much. This book was good, I enjoyed it, however I didn't think it was quite as good as the first.
The story is told mainly from Mary Seaward's perspective, making the use of diary entries not as effective as in the first book. Personally I would have liked to have read more from John, Bathory and Becky's points of view. I also felt that there weren't as many suspenseful moments as there were in the first book.
That aside this does follow on nicely from 'Bloodline', some twists in the book are predictable, and the whole sex on a grave/turning Quincey into a vampire scene was a bit cliche, but the story itself is enjoyable.
If you have read 'Bloodline' it is worth the read just to see what happens next, but I think u can enjoy 'Bloodline' as a stand alone novel without reading this after. I would give this book a 3.5 if I could.
