Product Description

Sam Falconer is pretty good at taking care of herself. Four times world judo champion, she now runs the Gentle Way investigation agency in London. But when her brother Mark asks her to return to Oxford to investigate the disappearance of a young woman, Sam finds herself confronting a past she hoped she'd left behind. Oxford is full of ghosts and Sam has never quite recovered from finding the body of a murdered 4-year-old girl there. To this day, she has no idea what led her to the scene and she dreads being back in the city. As Sam looks into the woman's disappearance, she finds the trail leads back to the university. But the closed academic world is unwilling to share its secrets with a stranger. Soon it becomes clear that someone is determined to frighten her off the case, and then, out of the blue, Sam receives a letter from a man who's been dead for twenty-eight years - her father...

I found the main charactor Samantha Falconer to be immediately both interesting and real..what's more I found myself caring about what happened to her. The mixture of great strength and vulnerability is quite beguiling, Sam is both and much more.

I have the feeling that we've barely scratched the surface of Sam's life and already it's a terrifying jumble - the plot and counterplot in this book made this story feel overstuffed - each could have been more than enough for a novel so to have both to deal with was the only down side to what I felt was a very engrossing first novel.....so when's the next one Victoria?

I am surprised Bloodless Shadow is Ms Blakes' first novel, she writes like a seasoned pro. I found myself reading it like I would read an old favourite, the main charactor seems both fresh and like an old friend, I loved the name of the detective agency and found the whole book a good read from beginning to end - can't wait for the next one....I wonder what's going to happen next?

Victoria Blake has created a strong, credible, multi-faceted world through which her lead character, Sam Falconer, moves and shakes. Sam's history permeates her present and many strands weave together brilliantly. We are immediately attracted and interested and then are drawn inexorably into the complex web of parallels, paradoxes and just plain coincidences that make for such a satisfying read. The characters around Sam are strong, real, sympathetic or horrifying. Bloodless Shadow is a very complete thriller, and yet we are left on the edge of our seat waiting for the next developments in Sam's life. I can't wait to learn what happens next, so come on, Victoria, let us have the next Sam Falconer soon.
