Book Description

1 Sep 2007
"Bloodchained" is a romantic suspense novel for lovers of paranormal fantasy, from award-winning Soulful Sex author Diana Laurence. It's the story of Grace Gilder and her brother Sebastian, who run an elegant inn in the city of Audacacia, home of the famous Temple of Love. Their inn hosts pilgrims journeying to petition the power of the Temple to intervene in matters of the heart. It's also the tale of Finn Equain, an enigmatic gentleman who harbors a secret and unhealthy obsession with the Roicans, a legendary race of blood-drinking immortals. By the time Grace and Finn's paths cross, powers beyond their control are at play. Figuring into their fates are two more mysterious characters: the delightfully charming Liam and his shy but ravishing sister Nessa. The destinies of these five will be determined by the ultimate conflict between supernatural powers of lust and loyalty, desire and devotion.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good not Great 20 Jan 2009

Did I read the same book as the others who posted reviews?

Don't get me wrong this book was good, definitely worth reading. However if you read it with the expectation of a 5 star book (as I did) you may be set up for disappointment.

I felt the love story or romance was rushed (especially between Bastian and Nessa), all of a sudden within a couple pages they are in love and can't live without eachother. There is little to no detail in the blossoming love that you would like to develop and melt your heart. I understand in a romance the relationship and undying love develops quickly, however there were so many pages devoted to developing the secondary characters it took away from the main characters.

The suspense situations presented are also a bit dry. They are enough to keep you reading, however they are not nock your socks off exciting. This along with the book's climax are just lacking the "I can't wait to see what happens next" excitement needed to earn a 5 star review.

The book ends with a cliff hanger. I do believe a lot of the blah, blah, blah about the secondary characters was setting us up for their presence in the series. But they just took so much away from the main characters who you want to fall in love with.

Overall I thought this was a great book. I do feel that parts of it were a bit rushed. I think it was very unique, definately worth the read. I'm now getting ready to start the second book.
