Product Description

After the first year in her new career, singer Winona heads back to her home town for a few weeks to wind down and find inspiration to write new songs. She finally settles into a house her manager has rented for her, but becomes disturbed by the unsettling noises. When she meets some old friends in town she invites them over to keep her company. At the same time, something remains awake in the house at all times, roaming the corridors, waiting, watching them for the right time to strike. Scary and shocking, Blood Runs Cold has been officially selected for the 2011 Frightfest Film Festival.

1.0 out of 5 stars Generic, cliche, terrible "american" slasher 17 Nov 2011
By Will
Format:DVD
Blood runs cold is a swedish indie horror film made with a budget of under $5000. Which is pretty impressive as the cinematography looks great and it has a pretty decent score as well. Although it's a swedish film with a swedish cast filmed in Sweden, it is spoken in English. The accents arent great neither is the dialogue, they are basically trying hard to be americans and it doesn't really work.

The film starts with Winona, a girl who has just got a new job as a writer. She is taking some time off before she starts work so she heads to a house out of the city that her agent has arranged for her to use for a while. It's basically a house in the middle of nowhere and there is a massive snow storm going on. She invites some friends over, her ex boyfriend and another couple. It isn't long before people start dying from the same killer straight out of the "Cold Prey" films.

The script is unoriginal, you have seen it a million times with every cliche going. The acting is atrocious (some of this may be down to them trying to put on american accents) and most the time they seem non plussed that some axe killer is trying to hack them to bits. The actions of the characters are also beyond stupid. For some examples..one of the guys goes out for a leak and sees someone in the loft who cant be any of the other 3. Yet he dismisses it as nothing and doesn't mention it! A door swings open during the night a few foot away from him and again he thinks nothing of it. One of the girls wakes the next morning with her friends missing and sees a load of blood on the floor. She casually proceeds to clean it up thinking nothing of it! A guy sees an axe murderer enter a shed so of course the first thing you do is follow him unarmed and see what he is doing..

5.0 out of 5 stars The best "budget" slasher film out there 5 Nov 2012
By D. Krol TOP 1000 REVIEWER
Format:DVD
If this film had have been done on a budget of $10m I would have gladly given it a solid 6 or 7 out of 10 but for the $5000 it took to make, it deserves a full 10 out of 10 plus.

How on earth do you produce a film as good as this for so little cash? There's plenty of scares, some decent gore, an absolutely brilliant looking killer, seriously, they don't come much creepier than this one and the gore effects are top notch.

It doesn't look cheap either, the camera work is fairly competent and looks far in excess of its meagre budget.
The only quibbles I have is with acting, which isn't the best if I'm honest but hey, for $5000 this is superb. And there a few plot points that are never fully explained or explored (who the killer is and how he came to be for eg) but I guess that leaves open an avenue for the sequel.

I'd like to see what this director can do with a real budget. It was far better than some of the big budget dross that Hollywood churns out these days (Prom night hang your head in shame).

Don't go into this expecting a big budget slasher, ala Scream and just take it for what it is, and remember, this whole film only cost $5000, it deserves far more recognition that it's getting.

3.0 out of 5 stars OLD HOUSE IN THE WOODS 31 Aug 2013
By The Movie Guy TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:DVD
Winona (Hanna Oldenburg) is a stressed out musician who rents a house in the woods so she can go to the town bar. Here she meets her old boyfriend Rick (Patrick Saxe) who can't read a line and his two lively friends Liz (Elin Hugoson) and Carl (Andreas Rylander). They decide to take the "party" back to the house, one that has an unwanted guest who looks exactly like the guy on the cover.

The opening scene was a slasher special effects dream. The were cold faces covered blood and snow. The older dried blood had turned dark, almost black, while the fresh blood from the wound was bright red, dripping like Karo syrup. Snowflakes that had fallen on his coat was mixed with blood. Clearly they knew what they were doing with special effects. The plot wasn't very linear and the action starts at 40 minutes into this 77 ,minute film, which accounts for the teaser opening shot.

The acting was not impressive, these are all newcomers. They also needed better lines. Toward the end when a head is smashed, we see the guy move his hand to the rock on his face to steady it. They could have cut out a few seconds, but I guess a 76 1/2 minute movie doesn't sell as well as a 77 minute film.

Now in a Scooby-Doo mystery they introduce the kindly Mr. Carswell in the beginning so we can figure out who the villian is in the first three minutes. I have seen the film and I don't know who it is. As far as I can tell, the film was shot in the part of Sweden where everyone speaks English to P.O. the cannibals.

Okay slasher rental.

Parental Guide: F-bomb, sex, nudity (Elin Hugoson, Hanna Oldenburg)

4.0 out of 5 stars Great 28 Jan 2012
Format:DVD
Loved it. Looks awesome for a low-budget slasher. Acting more than good, the axe-murderer is creepy and there is not much stupid dialog. This adds to the creepy atmosphere of an isolated house in the snowy woods with a creepy guy killing 20-somethings for no reason. Good soundtrack, entertaining and it really looks good. 4/5
