Absolutely fabulous mix of genres, so much more than simply shoegaze. Very consistent songs by Chapterhouse at their best. A great purchase altogether.

This is really great. Why had I never heard of these guys before?

Definitely will be looking into buying up the rest of their catalogue.

I don't know whether Amazon are selling a CD called Dedicated-if they are how do you find it if you want to review it?
Dedicated is the label which Chapterhouse recorded for along with the Cranes, the Family Cat,the Balloon,Spiritualized and This Picture.
While the Family Cat are missing it might be because in 1991 when this CD appeared they were yet to sign with Dedicated.
Amazingly the label also recorded a band called Catwalk and a single called Walking the Cat

A pleasure to listen.... 3 Dec. 2003

Soaring, crisp, and deep. If you are into bands such as RIDE, Slowdive, My bloody Valentine, Joy Division, Echo & The Bunnymen, Coldplay, Stone Roses, The Charlatans UK, etc. you must get this record. "Blood Music" is one of my favorite listens to this day. You need to get this! PK

shoegazer with a techno twist 3 Jun. 2005
By Peter A. Deaton - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
with bloodmusic, chapterhouse melds shoegazer guitars and vocals with techno beats, especially on the second disk. the vocals are as heavenly as their debut "whirlpool" but the music structures are quite different. the songs on this album are grand, why this album was overlooked is hard to understand. it was a little ahead of its time, so that may be the reason. anyway, buy both chapterhouse records and enjoy. although the music does have a loud rock edge, there is something heavenly about how the songs sound. this music will always have a place in my heart and if any band is thinking of a comeback, here is the one that should do it. btw, this album is not disco. the songs are full of emotion and meaning. just listen to "greater power" and decide for yourself. this album is a keeper.

An unjustly overlooked album... even by the band's fans! 10 May 2006
By Carpet Master - Published on Amazon.com

Is it just me, or is this album really the logical progression from Chapterhouse's earlier successful singles "Pearl" and "Mesmerise"? I can't quite understand why fans of their debut album "Whirlpool" scorn "Blood Music" whilst at the same time advocate "Pearl" as one of the band's finest moments.

"Pearl" and "Mesmerise" were both great marriages between pretty, ethereal soundscapes and good solid pop. To my ears "Blood Music" continues in this vain admirably, but more fully formed and confident. That's not to say it's all great, there are some moments you wish they had left out (eg. "She's a Vision"). But in general they managed to blend electronics, pop melodies and their lovely dreamy harmonies and chiming guitars very successfully.

Not that "Whirlpool" is a bad abum, but really, did the world honestly need more sub-standard MBV or Cocteaus covers in 1993? Chapterhouse obviously thought they could do better than that, and they proved it when they released this album.

great re-release 6 Dec. 2009
By Scott D. Walmsley - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
this is a great re-release of the original album with the added bonus mesmerize ep and 2 other b sides but i was dissapointed that they had removed some of the samples from the song deli. i am assuming there was a copyright issue. i had to go and hunt down the original version to be fully satisfied. the old eversion is a double disc including some remixes of we are the beautiful and the epic picnic...which are available on rownderbowt. the new version works well with the added tracks at the begining of the disc cause they were recorded first and the flow of the disc as they evolve in their new sound works in this format.
... would say Chapterhouse is by far one of the best shoegaze bands ever 28 Feb. 2015

I would say Chapterhouse is by far one of the best shoegaze bands ever. This particular album is definitely an all time fave. Amazing!! Fantastic chord progressions with enough pop to keep you listening over and over again. If you like this check out the "Whirlpool" album. Gritty and beautiful!!
