Product Description

Ireland in 1919 is seething with violence, tension and divided loyalties - and so is the heart of the beautiful, wilful heiress Catherine O'Connell-Gort. For Catherine, by heritage, is a glittering symbol of British rule and oppression - yet by inclination she is a traitor to her class. A fervent supporter of Sinn Fein, she is also the secret lover of Sean Brennan, an IRA volunteer who is being hunted by the police for terrorism and murder.

When the British government decides to meet terror with terror, Catherine finds herself in a position of even greater conflict. Her father, a colonel in British Military Intelligence, recruits Major Andrew Butler, battle-scarred war hero and Irish landlord, to assassinate IRA leader Michael Collins. He also decides that the dashing major would make the perfect husband for his headstrong daughter ...

In a violent climax of passion, guilt and betrayal, while her country hurtles towards civil war, Catherine faces and a agonising choice as she makes her final, fateful decision.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a great read., 24 Sep 2011
This review is from: The Blood Upon the Rose (Kindle Edition)
This is a great read. It starts with an attempted assassination of Sir John French, the Viceroy of Ireland, and moves swiftly into a touching, tender but ultimately tragic love affair between Catherine, a feisty young heiress who is determined to make her way as a medical student, and Sean, an IRA assassin from the Dublin slums. The love triangle is complete when Sean is imprisoned and Catherine's father tries to marry her to Andrew Butler, a sinister, scarred war veteran recruited by MI6 to kill Michael Collins. All the main characters are strongly drawn, and the author seems to have equal sympathy for the pain this war inflicts on both sides. It's fast-moving too, with lots of action and credible dialogue, hard to put down once you get into it, with a nail-biting series of twists and turns at the end - just what a good book should be!

The same author has some other books on Kindle: A Game of Proof (The trials of Sarah Newby)]][[Bold Counsel (The Trials of Sarah Newby)A Fatal Verdict (The Trials of Sarah Newby)[Cat and Mouse

5.0 out of 5 stars Just Brilliant!, 17 Oct 2011
By J. Shah - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: The Blood Upon the Rose (Kindle Edition)
I liked this book. It has a tragic love story at the heart of it with a spiky, feisty aristocratic heroine who is in rebellion against her father and the British establishment in Ireland even though she's been brought up at the centre of it. Probably many young Anglo -Irish women were like this, a hundred years ago. She's in love with a young terrorist but pursued by a scarey British assassin - like Sean Connery with a scar across his face! The story moves along a cracking pace, with plenty of twists and turns, with strong believable characters and good sense of period. I loved it.
