Product Description

Since getting attacked by a vampire, I didn’t believe in beginnings. Only endings. Every person born to this world comes with an expiration date, but I had never considered mine. At least not until I met John.

Now the end was all I ever thought about. I woke up every morning wondering if that day would be my last. Venom pulsed in my veins and seeped into my bones, infecting all my vital organs and changing me from the inside out. Slowly killing me.

But I’d welcome death in the end, if only because the alternative was even more frightening.

*****

Popular girl Blake Ehlert has it all: a prime spot on the cheerleading squad, a jock boyfriend who’s strong and sensitive, and the winning vote for Homecoming Queen two years in a row. But when she strikes up a conversation with loner John Kelly, her entire world starts to crumble.

John Kelly is a vampire—what’s known to his kind as a Compeller. It’s his job to recruit human Donors with a particular blood type.

And Blake is his next target.

3.0 out of 5 stars An intresting story 6 April 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
An interesting story but not one of the neither best nor well written ones, I believe this book had the ideas but not the skill. The story is adequate and i like how the chapters switch perspectives but it was a little confusing. Once you have grasped the concept of this book it is a good read.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Title Says Everything!! 4 Sep 2012
By Farmers.wife - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
Anyone who reads my reviews knows that I follow this author very closely; in fact, I've been a friend and then a fan when she went from running a parenting magazine to writing fiction. I've read two other YA books written by her, and this is her third. Lucky for me I got to read it as a beta reader.

When I first started reading this paranormal YA book, I thought to myself "Oh, how cute! What a cute chick-flick. I'll so totally recommend this to so-and-so's daughter." But, as I read on I found it getting a little deeper and then a little darker and then just when I was sitting on the edge of my seat - BAM!

But I can't tell you what the BAM is. Unfortunate too, but I have to say that after I finished it I thought to myself, "Well done, Melissa! This might be my favorite YA book of yours thus far." Which means, it might, might, might top The Spirit Keeper' with me. I also must say that it left me...well, wondering. Because I'm a "I need to know" kind of gal.

I little about the story...

Blake is kind of a goodie too shoes, co-captain of the cheerleading squad and dating the nicest boy in school who also happens to be a jock on the football team. But then enters John, some what unexpectedly, and Blake's life is turned upside down. Leaving her with a big decision to make - that just might include life or death...

I would and will totally be recommending this book to all the young adult readers I know; though take notice that there is a F*bomb or possibly two. But I would still say ages 14 and up.

Put it on your To-Read list - release is expected to be 09-22-12!

4.0 out of 5 stars An exciting YA novel that will keep you in suspense until the very end. 4 Sep 2012
By IRG - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Blood Type is an exciting YA novel that draws you in from the beginning. Unlike some vampire stories that are overly violent or feature out of this world super powers, Blood Type characters are far more similar to regular humans, and yet there's still something sinister and intriguing about their immersion into the life of small town USA. Our heroin Blake is left with the difficult choice of following her heart, but whether this leads her down a dangerous path is for the next reader to discover.

I enjoyed how the author jumps back and forth from present time, to how it all began a couple of months earlier. Blood Type has interesting and well developed characters, but you can't help but wonder what will happen next, before this novel comes to a close. A cliff hanger for sure, but some questions get answered while new questions emerge.

If you're looking for a good read that is fast paced, well written, and not overly violent while still keeping you on the edge of your seat, give Blood Type a chance! You will be well rewarded and wanting to read the next installment...

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Read! 28 Oct 2012
By Jennifer hearts the STL Cardinals - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
Melissa Luznicky Garrett has quickly become one of my favorite authors. I have read all of her books but one and have not been disappointed. One of the things I love the most about Melissa is the fact that she can write so diversely. Vampire books are a dime a dozen anymore but Melissa does it different...and does a great job! Lucky me, I was chosen as a beta reader for Blood Type and I have to say it has quickly become one of my favorite books. The characters are likable and the story keeps you wanting more. I look forward to the rest of the series!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Characters and an Interesting Hook 26 Sep 2012
By Tia Bach - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
Blake is a popular teenage girl who seems to have it all. She's a captain on the cheerleading squad and her boyfriend is quarterback of the football team. But all it takes is one guy to waltz into her life to turn it upside down. Worse, this guy is a vampire.

John sweeps her off her feet, and even seems like a great boyfriend. But his job is to recruit supply for some unsavory crew, and Blake falls into a sought after blood group. John finds himself falling for her, but one of his friends can't control his hunger. Blake, naive and trusting, is in the wrong place at the wrong time.

I love a well-written young adult paranormal book, but what makes it even more memorable... great characters and an interesting twist. Melissa Luznicky Garrett gives us both. Blake starts off quite naive and trusting, but you see her strength gaining with each page turn. She doesn't want what fate hands her, so she decides to fight. While she doesn't always make the best decisions, she doesn't just roll over and accept some bad luck.

But the best part was how well the author blends past and present into a constantly rising crescendo that leads into a breathtaking climax. One that will leave readers clamoring for the next book.

I know the term "young adult" can be murky for parents, but I'll definitely be passing this onto my 12-year-old daughter. She loves paranormal, and I know she'll devour this book.

A funny aside: I just turned 40 and had to have my first mammogram. I took Blood Type with me to the office to keep my nerves in check and my mind occupied. The nurse had to come up and tap me on the shoulder when it was time for my appointment. Apparently, she had been calling my name, but I was so into the book that I didn't hear. I can't think of a better endorsement than that! (Plus, I finished the book later that day.)

Note: I received a complimentary copy for review purposes. A positive review was not guaranteed or requested; the opinions expressed are my own.

4.0 out of 5 stars BLOOD TYPE is a fantastic YA novel! 18 Sep 2012
By Natalie Allan - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
I really loved BLOOD TYPE. It brings a fresh perspective into the realm of "teenage high school vampire novels", and I've read a few, so I never miss a new trick when I see one.

Melissa's book is full of intrigue. I love how the non-linear storyline builds until you are desperate to see what unfolds--then and now--and when both lines comes together, Melissa blends the two perfectly, drawing on a brilliant ending with a wonderful cast of characters.

Both a mixture of paranormal romance and suspense, Melissa's cast of characters are unique, bold and vivid. The heroine is quick witted and not afraid to make her own moves, but occasionally I found her to be just a little bit too mature-headed. The vampires in this book are fresh and not all of them are the stereotypical mysterious creature that every young girl wants to fall in love with. Some of her vampires are just plain bad ;)

In all, I found BLOOD TYPE to be a satisfying and quirky read, with vivid characters and a lot of intrigue to keep the pages turning at a good pace. I would recommend this book to anyone who has loved Melissa's books in the past, and to those who are new to Melissa as an author, you're in for a wonderful treat that you won't be able to get enough of in the end. BLOOD TYPE stays with you even after you've closed the book.
