Book Description

Book 1 in the Little Town series. Police officer Tess Fuller has her hands full trying to maintain order in a poorly-resourced small mountain town overrun by the beautiful, arrogant and lawless Bycraft family. And nobody in town has suffered at their hands as much as the Fuller family. But what will her new sergeant, Finn Maguire, a serious by-the-books city cop, think of her renegade policing style? And will they be able to work together to save Tess’ life when her feud with the Bycrafts escalates dangerously, while also trying to solve the intersecting mysteries of possible land fraud, an abandoned suitcase of money and a peeping tom with a preference for older women?

5.0 out of 5 stars Small town Australia - Blood Ties (Little Town) 7 Oct. 2012
    By Lyn H-J
    Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
It was a while before I realised that Blood Ties is based in Australia, and that explained a couple of things that had puzzled me.

This is one of those rare books that makes you want to visit the location being written about, which is described well and lovingly. The characters are rounded and believable, the plot is carefully thought out with no loose ends, and a few interesting twists along the way.

All in all, most enjoyable, I am looking forward to reading more by this author.

    4.0 out of 5 stars I liked it 7 Sept. 2013

This is quite a good story which at first I thought was set in the US then I realised it was Australia. Some of the scraps our main character endured and survived seemed a bit far fetched but it didn't detract from the story. I don't know if there is a follow-up,(I will check)there are several questions that I would like answered.

    4.0 out of 5 stars Good Doesn't-Go-Anywhere Easy Read 29 July 2013
    Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
If this was a drama series, it'd be a kind of Heartbeat meets The Waltons. Gentle easy-read about a backwater one-horse town looked after by a single female cop who goes out with a man from the rough side of the tracks. No real heart-stopping moments and a few times you want to scream at the woman with your own set of opinions and suggestions - but I guess that's the skill of the writing - you get embroiled in the lifestyle and want to wade in and sort things out. No major crisis, no major drama, no real nail-biting moments - a few scuffles and bare knuckle fights which seem totally out of character but all-in-all a decent late night read that won't give you the willies!

    1.0 out of 5 stars Drivel 21 Mar. 2013
    By AnnieB
    Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Chick lit with violence is the only way I can describe this and it's not a compliment. The heroine is Barbie with a police badge, who manages to keep looking ravishing no matter how much punishment she takes from the local baddies, who are all relatives of her boyfriend, the Greek God lookalike. The behaviour of the family make the characters in Shameless look like model citizens, while our heroine keeps them at bay single handed - until her new boss arrives. And surprise, surprise he turns out to be quite fanciable, as does the detective from Big Town. Will she stick with the Hunk or fall into the arms of another cop? Who cares? Not me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent read 5 Jun. 2013

Very enjoyable, J D Nixon delivers yet another excellent book, about life in small town Australia I've been there quite a few times and the people are just like it. Her Heller series is good well worth reading as well. I have all the little town books and I am looking forward to reading the next installment. Unlike some reviews I'm not going to ruin the story by telling you what happens, why etc you will have to read it yourself , you will not be disappointed I couldn't put it down reading into the small hours. Make your own mind up if you like it or not!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Really enjoyed this 19 Oct. 2012
    Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This was a good read - fast paced, believable characters (except perhaps for the heroine's near invincibility, but hey, it is fiction). Best of all, it was funny, and had me laughing out loud on the journey to work. Am definitely going to buy more from this author!

5.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable read 21 Feb. 2013

Have read all this series about Tess and the Sarge, and I must say I enjoyed them very much (although they do stretch credulity somewhat - perhaps that's what makes them fun). Tess can be a bit annoying sometimes (often!) but as a reader I am always on her side. The Sarge is a great character as well, unlike Heller in the other series who I cannot like at all. I hope the author concentrates on writing more books in the Little Town series and forgets about Heller for a while.
