In the immediate aftermath of the tragedy Beck encounters the pale and enigmatic Gina, who reminds him of a prisoner whose life he failed to save. Also witness to the suicide, Gina who works in the Peep Show at the After Dark club, thinks that maybe she knew the woman who jumped.
Days later, following a shooting at the After Dark, Gina turns to Beck for help and tells him she believes she is being followed. When Gina disappears Beck is forced to begin a search for her, a search which brings him face to face with a young sniper and Iraq veteran, Aiden, a man with nothing to lose who is wedded to his rifle, and with the dark underbelly of the city of Newcastle and the world of gangster turned city benefactor Harry Munroe.
When the dead bodies of two women, are discovered; the first on waste ground in the city and the second on a remote hillside in Weardale, Beck’s search for Gina intensifies and he is forced to confront the true nature of Munroe’s violent world: a world that stretches out through the streets of Newcastle and along the Tyne to Rekendyke and beyond. ..
