Book Description

Mark Dawson (author of the best-selling JOHN MILTON series) continues the action-packed quest for revenge begun by Beatrix Rose in IN COLD BLOOD.

Ten years ago, Beatrix Rose headed an off-the-books hit squad that did the dirty work of the British Government. When she discovered that the commander of the squad was corrupt, he sent five of his assassins to rub her out.

But they failed. Bad mistake.

There were six names on Beatrix's Death List and now there are four. She’s going to account for the others, one by one, even if it kills her.

Beatrix has returned from Somalia with a fresh target in her sights. Bryan Duffy is in Iraq, surrounded by mercenaries, with no easy way to get to him and no easy way to get out.

Will Duffy prove to be a challenge too far?

Readers of IN COLD BLOOD will know all about the unlimited action, but until you've read BLOOD MOON RISING, you’ll only know one third of the story!

    More About the Author

Mark Dawson has worked as a lawyer and currently works in the London film industry. His first books, "The Art of Falling Apart" and "Subpoena Colada" have been published in multiple languages.

He is currently writing three series.

The John Milton series features a disgruntled assassin who aims to help people to make amends for the things that he has done.

The Beatrix Rose series features the headlong fight for justice of a wronged mother - who happens to be an assassin - against the six names on her Kill List.

Soho Noir is set in the West End of London between 1940 and 1970. The first book in the series, "The Black Mile", deals with the (real life but little known) serial killer who operated in the area during the Blitz. 3.0 out of 5 stars Little bit of a letdown after "In Cold Blood". 5 Dec. 2014
    Format:Kindle Edition
I thought this installment of the story was less enticing and worth progressing with than the first one. In Cold Blood really snared me into the story of Beatrix Rose, her struggles and fight for revenge against the shadowy figures who destroyed her life and murdered her husband. I like the setting, the pace and the characters. Here, I was hoping for Dawson to build upon the story, show us more and maybe take the reader down a different path.

Instead, it just feel like the story literally carries on from In Cold Blood, as in 'last page/first page'. Nothing new is brought to the table, and when you take away a lot of the re-introduction of the same key players, back story references, drinking and drug taking that Beatrix does to cope, I am starting to get the impression all three novels could have been edited down into one book.

That doesn't mean the story isn't worth reading or listening to (which was the case for me), but it would make me think twice about shelling out for 3 seperate stories at potentially more cost than one novel.

I didn't really find the idea of Beatrix wearing a Niqab whilst driving around Iraq towards the oil fields credible either. And the idea that someone as 'stunning' as her wouldn't get noticed as a foreigner. Similarly, the idea of her killing 8 or so armed fighters in the time it took them to get off return fire is quite unbelievable. Still, there is a lot to like about the book, it is well written and the pace is good, but I was expecting a little more as the trilogy progressed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another knock out winner 18 Jun. 2014
    Format:Kindle Edition
Another winner from Mark Dawson. Characters are well developed with plenty of human touches. The story is typically fast paced and completely absorbing and you may find you've read it inside two days! There appears to be a real following for Mark Dawson's work. I suggest you read the books in order, because the story follows on seamlessly, one book from the other.

Part 2 of the trilogy, if you've not read the first one then just buy all 3 together now. This will save you time, I promise you if you start to read the first book you will read them all. The action comes at you non stop and it feels like you're right in the heart of it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rose carries on. 16 Feb. 2015
    Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
After reading the first of the "Beatrix Rose" books I was really looking forward to number two. It didn't disappoint, maybe not the fast paced thrill of the chase as the first but still plenty of action. Rose is still as ruthless and dangerous as ever but being slowed down by her increasing illness. She has to get her revenge before it catches up with her and as the fight seems to be coming to her I think number 3 will be brilliant and can't wait to read that.

You need to read these books in order as the story follows well through the trilogy. This was an enjoyable read with good characters and a compelling fast pace story. Found Mark Dawson's writing style in these books and it has made me want to seek out other titles he has written. So I look forward to catching up with some of the back stories of other characters. Thank you Mark.
