Product Description

The Horror Writers Association Presents "BLOOD LITE" ...a collection of entertaining tales that puts the fun back into dark fiction, with ironic twists and tongue-in-cheek wit to temper the jagged edge. Charlaine Harris reveals the dark side of going green, when a quartet of die-hard environmentalists hosts a fundraiser with a gory twist in "An Evening with Al Gore.,."In an all-new Dresden Files story from Jim Butcher, when it comes to tracking deadly paranormal doings, there's no such thing as a "Day Off" for the Chicago P.D.'s wizard detective, Harry Dresden...Sherrilyn Kenyon turns a cubicle-dwelling MBA with no life into a demon-fighting seraph with one hell of an afterlife in "Where Angels Fear to Tread.,."Celebrity necromancer Jaime Vegas is headlining a sold-out seance tour, but behind the scenes, a disgruntled ghost has a bone to pick, in Kelley Armstrong's "The Ungrateful Dead." Plus tales guaranteed to get under your skin -- in a good way -- from Janet Berliner Don D'Ammassa Nancy Holder Nancy KilpatrickJ. A. Konrath and F. Paul Wilson Joe R. Lansdale Will LudwigsenSharyn McCrumb Mark Onspaugh Mike Resnick Steven SavileD. L. 2.0 out of 5 stars Very disappointing, 19 Oct 2008
By a.vampyre (Wallsend) - See all my reviews
Most of the stories were neither humorous nor horrific and many were quite simply boring. I've given it two stars because of "The Ungrateful Dead" by Kelly Armstrong, which was one of the few exceptions to this and because of Jim Butcher's "Day Off" which is a really nice out-take from the Dresden Files, although probably a bit confusing for anyone who isn't already familiar with Harry.

One of the biggest problems with this anthology is that there are so many authors contributing (21 stories in 379 pages) that all the entries are more like teasers than stories in their own right. Sherrilyn Kenyon is one of my favorite authors but "Where Angel's Fear to Tread" read like the first draft of a chapter from something longer and left me completely unsatisfied.

2.0 out of 5 stars Mostly Shocking, 25 Jun 2009

Many people are drawn to anthologies for a single story within them. A particular author you're obsessively reading, or a universe you don't want to miss a single facet of.

A good anthology gives you more than that. It gives you a glimpse of other writers and universes to explore and at their best can extend your To Be Read list by a dozen or more books.

Blood Lite's not one of these. I don't expect perfection in an anthology, but I prefer most of the individual stories to be worth 3/5. The majority in here sit at one or two, and some of them dip into the other side of the scale as examples of how not to do it.

A true obsessive will shrug and overpay for the short story they're here for. The more controlled amongst you would be better served by a trip to the library, reading the one you want and getting out.
