Book Description

18 Mar 2014 Jefferson Tayte Genealogical Mysteries (Book 1)
Family history was never supposed to be like this... When American genealogist, Jefferson Tayte, accepted his latest assignment, he had no idea it might kill him. But while murder was never part of the curriculum, he is kidding himself if he thinks he can walk away from this one. Driven by the all-consuming irony of being a genealogist who doesn't know who his own parents are, Tayte soon finds that the assignment shares a stark similarity to his own struggle. Someone has gone to great lengths to erase an entire family bloodline from recorded history and he's not going home until he's found out why. After all, if he's not good enough to find this family, how can he ever expect to be good enough to someday find his own? Set in Cornwall, England, past and present, Tayte's research centres around the tragic life of a young Cornish girl, a writing box, and the discovery of a dark family secret that he believes will lead him to the family he is looking for. Trouble is, someone else is looking for the same answers and they will stop at nothing to find them.

More About the Author

Steve Robinson drew upon his own family history for inspiration when he imagined the life and quest of his genealogist-hero, Jefferson Tayte. The talented London-based crime writer, who was first published at age 16, always wondered about his own maternal grandfather--"He was an American GI billeted in England during the Second World War," Robinson says. "A few years after the war ended he went back to America, leaving a young family behind and, to my knowledge, no further contact was made. I traced him to Los Angeles through his 1943 enlistment record and discovered that he was born in Arkansas . . ." Robinson cites crime writing and genealogy as ardent hobbies--a passion that is readily apparent in his work. He can be contacted via his website www.steve-robinson.me or his blog at www.ancestryauthor.blogspot.com.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Jolly Great Read 13 Jan 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This was one of the first books I got on my Kindle. I bought it because I love Family History and Detective stories (the 2 seem to go hand in hand). And have read many others of this ilk including those by Dan Waddell.

What can I say, I loved it. Read it in one sitting. Loved the main character. Very good narrative and descriptions of places.

Could not fault it and am eagerly awaiting a follow-up.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Incredible Tragic Tale 12 Oct 2011
By sujay
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
What can I say about this book? It is a fantastic début book from a brilliant writer. From the first page I was totally engrossed in an epic tale that spread over several generations of family history. I thought I had the mystery solved, but I was totally wrong and the last few pages had my heart going at full speed! The final part of the mystery is not revealed until the very end and what a tragic story it was. I felt tears in my eyes reading the final explanation. I was going to read for a few minutes when I went to bed, but when I looked up two hours had passed, I was so involved in the story. I spent many happy holidays in Cornwall as a child, and this book bought so many memories back as I reading about the places in the book. The descriptions are brilliant, and if I could I would give the book 10 stars. This book is worth way more than the price charged, and I would have no hesitation in recommending it to anybody.

Many thanks for a brilliant read. :)

I am another of the Goodreads forum Book of the Month readers and found In the Blood to be a well written and very enjoyable book. It was for me 'a can't put it down' read. I was not too sure I would like it before I started but once I had, well, there was no stopping me. I shall look forward to more from Steven Robinson. Oh Yes Indeed!

5.0 out of 5 stars Mystery after mystery! 21 July 2011
By Ignite TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Kindle Edition
I loved the idea of this book from the product description and found it a very gripping read. The movement from past to present was smooth (it isn't always) and the characters were realistically drawn. I found that I cared about them - always a good sign in a novel. Good and bad characters were not obvious from the beginning and the book is a real page-turner.
Several times I thought I had worked out what was going on but each time I was wrong! It was a particularly well-wrought story and I hope the writer has more to come.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gripping 6 Jan 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Intriguing in most parts absolutely gripping in some. The story is based around genealogy and Cornwall which coupled together would make any book appear interesting but the author cleverly flips from the present to the past weaving the stories together. The situations Jefferson Tayte (the genealogist) finds himself in are a time a little incredulous but do not let this put you off reading this book, it is an excellent read. As with any family history nothing is what it seems to be. The ending is so unexpected and riveting. A brilliant book and one I would highly recommend.

I had to give up with the utterly stupid actions of the hero who deserved most of what he got. Adventure tales can be good if within reason but this was an insult to intelligence. Read more
