This sequel to Chris Collett's first Mariner crime story is a very worthy successor. Again set in modern Birmingham, she tackles the issue of "class distinction" head on, whilst handling race issues sensitively, too. Mariner is a tough detective inspector with a soft heart, torn by his conscience and frustrated by the powers that be. Lots of humour and moments of tears in this story which is well paced. Again, it manages to hold the reader's interest to the final page.Definitely an ideal book to buy for other crime fans.
