Whilst this certainly isn't Editors best single to date (after the glorious Munich). It certainly shows they are more than a one trick pony... and whilst certainly having a sound similar to their peers in some aspects, there are simply no other british bands producing this quality of postpunk rock.
Comparisons to Interpol and Joy Division are simply lazy! Yes they sound similar to Interpol, and yes to Joy Division, but it's like saying Aerosmith sound the same as Guns and Roses - they were still both great bands of their era, in their own right - with great songs.
Previous comments anticipating this single to 37 in the charts (it actually went to 18) are whimsical to say the least. If you've seen this band live, if you've heard the album, you'll realise that Editors are a band that will most certainly endure and will not fail to continue to move onward and upwards.
They, who are in my opinion the best live band in the last several years can only truly be appreciated on stage - however, have no doubt, singles like 'Blood' and their album 'The Back Room' will do more than satisfy anyone needing a good fix of intelligent, emotion provoking rock music.
Editors are a band for the true indie souls out there, playing CD:UK and Party in The Park is simply not neccessary for band to be succesful - if you buy your music in Tescos, stick to Lee Ryan! We'll forgive you.

Another next big thing type outfit, and they've certainly managed to get the jagged, spiky guitar lines of Franz Ferdinand (who are so last year, dearies) topped of with Joy Division vocals and Echo & The Bunnymen melodies. So that's the student lobby taken care of, who never actually buy records but pass copies of the NME around the student union talking about buying records.
Which should get them to number 37 in the charts for a week. So. They really need to be hitting thee Tesco market if they want to last more than a debut album. Which requires Coldplay type blandness, which they are sadly lacking in. Best of all is the 'The Freelance Hellraiser Editorial' mix of 'Blood', where they do the New Order transformation before their vocalist dies.
For 'Blood' is actually a very good song, angular and interesting, which isn't nearly generic enough to translate into sales. Look for them 10 years now on Bands Reunited.

After reading a fair bit of hype on the Editors I was curious enough to buy this single as a warm up to their album. It's a shame really, as this band continue the unfortunate trend of new bands who are trying to sound like Joy Division as much as possible without going the whole hog and becoming a covers band. On "Blood" they actually come across sounding like a b-side from an Interpol single on this rather poor effort.
