5.0 out of 5 stars Bone Crunching!! 16 Jan 2010
By Cb1306
I saw this when a friend loaned me his Region 1 copy. Looking at the basic plot summary i assumed it would follow along the lines of Steve "Stone Cold" Austins recent bare knuckle flick "Damage."
I wasn't a million miles away. But there is one major difference. The fight scenes in this flm are nothing short of remarkable.
Being a fan and exponent of Martial Arts for over 30 years it takes something special these days to impress me, what with all the wire fu thats floating around these days it was refreshing to see fights the way they were intended to be. Brief, bloody & brutal.
Michael Jai White takes the lead, some of you may remember him for his excellent portrayal of Mike Tyson, his turn as the baddie in Universal Soldier 2, his brief appearance in The Dark Knight or as the champ in Undisputed 2.
Fans of MMA will no doubt recognise some familiar faces, in particular Bob Sapp who plays the undisputed champ of the circuit who for reasons unclear at the start of the film our hero is desperate to face off against.
The only reason i've given this 5 stars is because of the excellent fight choreography. The plot has been done before(and better)and there is some woeful casting (Julian Sands as a ruthless boxing promoter!!?)
Eamonn Walker however (who some of you may remember from "In sickness and in health) is a revelation.
Order a pizza, open some tinnies and enjoy.

3.0 out of 5 stars blood and Bone 9 Sep 2010
If you like your fight movies with a bit of a moral tone this is a good movie, the script is a little light on content but the fight sequences did not disappoint. Overall watchable but not the greatest movie script wise.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent - can't recommend enough 27 May 2010
By Nick G
Came across this film by chance after seeing a Youtube clip somewhere (actually of first scene) - bought the DVD assuming I'd seen the best bits but how wrong I was. The start is fantastic - then it gets better.

OK - let's be clear - the story is your standard affair (AWOL version 350 !!) but it does it in a highly polished, very watchable and most importantly action packed way. If you've clicked on the link you probably already like this kind of film and therefore I can 100% recommend this.

Been looking for a modern version of JCVD since watching Bloodsport many years ago - took a long time but Michael Jai White easily steps up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome martial arts film 24 Jun 2010
By Sandman
Someone mentioned this to me in passing, I had never heard of Michael Jai White before so was dubious at first, but as soon as the fights start I was seriously impressed.

Although the plot isnt great, and there's a very annoying supporting character (his fight co-ordinator type guy) everything else is top notch. Great acting from everyone (apart from aforementioned person) especially Eamonn Walker who is distubingly convincing as a complete psychopath and White's nemesis.

The fight scenes are something rare in martial arts films, they actually look like real fights, which considering White has 7 black belts in various styles is not suprising; but many directors and fight choreographers make the mistake of overdoing the acrobatic moves and impossible outside a movie type moves which may look good but detracts from a serious film. The fights in this film are extremely well done and not too over the top, which makes them doubly impressive. The final one is a joy to watch.

Oh yeah, also see Black Dynamite, very very funny.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good martial arts movie 6 Jan 2013
Just watched this on bluray. There's no extras or anything, just the movie. So you might as well buy it on dvd to be honest.

What a movie it is! Starring Michael Jai White as Bone. An ex con who on release from prison becomes involved in the world of illegal bare knuckle fighting if you would like to call it that. It's more of a freestyle martial arts underground scene going on.

He gets himself a fixer who finds fights for him and in the proces he's earning some hard cash as well as carrying out a favour he promised a freind. . .

I'll say no more regarding the plot but the fight scenes are tight as hell! Kimbo Slice makes an appearance early on as does Bob Sapp who features a fair bit and Maurice Smith for anybody who knows their kickboxing. The baddie here is played by non other than Whinston, Eamonn Walker (the gay black guy) who was always comicallywinding Alf Garnett up in In Sicness and in health!

As for Michael Jai White, having studied several forms of martial art, his own style incorporates them all and this looks fantastic on screen. Some of the moves he pulls off are outstandind including a quadruple kick from a standing position to four different opponents! Even though obviously choreographed if you've ever studied any martial art you've gotta take your hat off to that scene. Some lovely, yes, lovely! floorwork demonstrated here too.

If you liked Bloodsport and Kickboxer well this is the modern day version I would say but much better acting!

Give it a go.

Martial arts fans keep an eye our for Bob Wall (O Hara from Enter The Dragon) I couldn't believe it when I realised it was him. He's knocking on 74 nowadays!
