Product Description

Director Ben Ramsey and writer Michael Andrews team for this martial-arts action thriller concerning a mysterious drifter (Michael Jai White) who becomes ensnared in the seedy world of underground street-fighting. In the back alleys of Los Angeles life is cheap and to go against the grain is to take on the most powerful criminal organisation on the West Coast.

Someone mentioned this to me in passing, I had never heard of Michael Jai White before so was dubious at first, but as soon as the fights start I was seriously impressed.

Although the plot isnt great, and there's a very annoying supporting character (his fight co-ordinator type guy) everything else is top notch. Great acting from everyone (apart from aforementioned person) especially Eamonn Walker who is distubingly convincing as a complete psychopath and White's nemesis.

The fight scenes are something rare in martial arts films, they actually look like real fights, which considering White has 7 black belts in various styles is not suprising; but many directors and fight choreographers make the mistake of overdoing the acrobatic moves and impossible outside a movie type moves which may look good but detracts from a serious film. The fights in this film are extremely well done and not too over the top, which makes them doubly impressive. The final one is a joy to watch.

Make some more films Michael! Oh yeah, also see Black Dynamite, very very funny.

Bone Crunching!! 16 Jan 2010

I saw this when a friend loaned me his Region 1 copy. Looking at the basic plot summary i assumed it would follow along the lines of Steve "Stone Cold" Austins recent bare knuckle flick "Damage."
I wasn't a million miles away. But there is one major difference. The fight scenes in this flm are nothing short of remarkable.
Being a fan and exponent of Martial Arts for over 30 years it takes something special these days to impress me, what with all the wire fu thats floating around these days it was refreshing to see fights the way they were intended to be. Brief, bloody & brutal.
Michael Jai White takes the lead, some of you may remember him for his excellent portrayal of Mike Tyson, his turn as the baddie in Universal Soldier 2, his brief appearance in The Dark Knight or as the champ in Undisputed 2.
Fans of MMA will no doubt recognise some familiar faces, in particular Bob Sapp who plays the undisputed champ of the circuit who for reasons unclear at the start of the film our hero is desperate to face off against.
The only reason i've given this 5 stars is because of the excellent fight choreography. The plot has been done before(and better)and there is some woeful casting (Julian Sands as a ruthless boxing promoter!!?)
Eamonn Walker however (who some of you may remember from "In sickness and in health) is a revelation.
Order a pizza, open some tinnies and enjoy.

blood and Bone 9 Sep 2010

If you like your fight movies with a bit of a moral tone this is a good movie, the script is a little light on content but the fight sequences did not disappoint. Overall watchable but not the greatest movie script wise.
