This, the third book of the Billy Boyle series, deals with the Mafia's roll in WWII, and is set in Sicily at the beginning of the allied invasion. The author sees the war through the eyes of a young former Boston cop, working as a special investigator on his uncle Ike' headquarters staff. The reader learn of mafia honor, local attitudes, and corruption within the U.S. Army itself. It is action packed, from the very start and will not dissappoint those who like full throttle historical fiction. Again, I can't wait for the next Billy Boyle adventure, as, after three novels, one really looks on him as a member of the family. A cousin, perhaps.
Each book gets a little better and you see Billy recognizing, evolving and coming to grips with his own morality, while being involved in the ultimate immorality of war.
