Dark Suspense! 30 July 2011

Blind Pursuit had me hooked from chapter one when Erin is attacked on her own doorstep. This is the beginning of a dark thriller full of scary moments as she is taken captive and held in a dusty basement. The psychological battle with her captor and also with her own thoughts of escape, and her predicament, begins. Snappy writing, with short punchy sentences, which I like. But this is also balanced with good description of the characters, their surroundings, and emotions. The plot develops well as Erin discovers more about why she was chosen and her strange connection to her sister Annie. A great suspenseful read that I would definitely recommend.

I confess I enjoyed this despite some misgivings. The premise grabbed me early on -- a therapist kidnapped by a serial killer who wants her to stop him -- and the writing was pithy so it kept the narrative moving. However, some rather silly bumbling by the police, too much internal monologue by Erin, the protagonist, and the interworking of her relationship with her sister, Annie, with whom she has an unusual bond, slowed me down. Still, well-done, and I will try another of his books.

The main character in this book, Erin a clinical psychologist, is awoken in the early hours of the morning by a frantic message from her twin sister, Annie. As she goes downstairs to find her sister she walks straight into a trap with a kidnapper who has targeted her for very specific reasons. As the story progresses and Erin struggles to survive she finds out more about herself and her past than she bargained for.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was fast paced and full of twists and turns - some of which I just didn't see coming. However, it is one of those books where you need to be prepared to suspend your desire for everything to be realistic - there are definitely some parts that just don't ring true and which are not very credible. There are also a number of spelling and grammatical errors as sometimes happens with Kindle books - although these didn't detract from the story as a whole.

In short, it was very easy to turn the pages here and to quickly get involved in the story. If you enjoy this style of book then once started, you will find it difficult to put down - I read it from start to finish in just one day. Despite some imperfections in the effort I will certainly look out for more books by Michael Prescott.
