When Metallica had decided to become the next Judas Priest/Accept, Anthrax had become simply comical, and Slayer were stuck in a rut (still the same sound and ideas), this album came completely out of the blue and left the competition and pundits like rabbits in a headlight. If your looking for a sound-bite for this opus, then power is the theme that runs straight though it. Whether you consider the guitar sound, vocals, production or lyrics you're left in no doubt that these guys knew their business and how best to get the message across. Songs like "Vote with a bullet" and "Damned for all time" are executed in a way that most bands, then and now, can only dream of. There is not a note out of place and every phrase is judged for best impact. Unlike a lot of their contemporaries, speed is matched with pace, and balanced with control (they never showed off how well they could play, just for the sake of it). The best thing though, is that unlike all the rest, this had a real live feel to the overall sound, and was not dogged by stale production which plagued early Metallica and Slayer albums up to that time.

let me start by saying, that this album was not what i thought it was when i bought it. i love all of coc's stuff with pepper, and i bought the new self titled album with trepidation, it is fookin' amazing and easily as good if not better in some ways than the pepper material. i bought this album, (stupidly i admit) thinking that this was the same lineup as the new album. i was wrong, this album has pepper, but only on guitar, and the vocals were handled by karl agell.

i have to say this album is amazing, i love this album, i know i bought it thinking it was something else and i know people might wanna call me on it, but i don't care. i like this band and have done for ages, but since this album, (and the new self titled album) i have come to love this band in a way i wouldn't have guessed before.

people might suggest starting with deliverance(another classic) or in the arms of god(equally as good) but i would say start with this, it the perfect blend of pepper era and pre pepper era coc.

Love this album. Only had a live album and wiseblood previously, but this was a lot heavier in places than those two. Best c.o.c album I've heard so far. Dare I say that the singer on this album Karl agell is a better singer than pepper?!? Maybe! Highly recommended. Service quick and CD worked fine after a quick clean of the disk.
