Product Description

Product Description

The beautiful house was built for a pirate rewarded by Good Queen Bess for the plunder that he brought home. But tragedy was born within its walls before Thomas Rowhedge even took possession and its memory remained in an icy
atmosphere of despair by the window seat in the hall. It was home to a witch who could charm animals and a ghost who challenged everything but true love. It was filled with hope and heartbreak for four hundred years. It saw the passing of the Civil War and the restoration of the King. It became rich with an Indian Nabob and poor with a 20th century innkeeper. It tested every soul that
entered it and gave no quarter to those it found wanting.
The house was Merravay and it would always call back its own to try and complete the dance of love broken so cruelly as soon as its cornerstone was laid.

"Bless this House" is a work of general fiction.

5.0 out of 5 stars THIS OLD HOUSE... 13 Sep 2003
This is a book to be savored by those who enjoy historical fiction. Beautifully written by a master storyteller, it centers around a beautiful house, Merravay, which was built during the Elizabethan era, and the lives of those who lived in it throughout the passing centuries.
It is a rich melange of personalitites, conflicts, loves, and everyday twists that meld into the foundation of the house whose inhabitants have seen so much personal and historical strife. Filled with memorable characters throughout the ages, this thoroughly engrossing book will keep the reader entertained until the very last page is turned.

I love the way the story is about the house over many years and so contains many sub stories within it concerning the inhabitants. Great read

I admire Norah Lofts' work and would recommend this highly. I lost myself entirely and should have been born in the 1500's.

5.0 out of 5 stars Norah Lofts. Bless This House 29 Mar 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a really good story about days gone by, and with real, alive characters. I like to read books in the first person, and so enjoyed each story of the people who lived in this house, throughout the centuries. Norah Lofts is a brilliant writer. I have all of her books!
