This film lacks the subtlty of modern films, or the in-your-face crudeness of American Pie etc, but you do get a load of classic Carry-On style moments. Sid James is the funniest I've ever seen him, and playing against Terry Scott's straight-laces middle class role, he shines even brighter. Robin Askwith also makes a complete fool of himself on more than one occassion.
All the way through writing this review I've been smiling to myself as I recount some of the classic scenes. This film is 70's comedy, neatly wrapped up into 85 minutes of shiny dvd. I love it!
The most lovable rogue of the time, the legendary Sid james, leads his family through the hilarious highs and lows of redecorating, brewing your own spirits, and trying to get your son married to the girl next door. Boasting a stellar cast of the time including Terry Scott, Peter Butterworth and June Whitfield, 'Bless This House' shows us all why comedy doesn't always have to involve funny accents, silly faces and exaggeration. This is to be enjoyed as a reminder of a simple but much loved era of British Cinema.
Due to the saddening fact that Sid, Terry and Peter have all passed away, what is really missed by me here is a set of special features, they would have been great!
