It's the start of the summer and David Wilson expects to spend three months of freedom with his best friends, Ash and Celia, before starting university. What he doesn't expect is to meet someone like Angel, from an alternative artists' community which has set up in the village. Pagan Angel seduces David with sex and ceremonies and, under her spell, he fails to notice that mercurial Ash is spiralling out of control and Christian Celia is becoming ever more fragile. As the wheel of the year turns from summer towards winter, David has to make a choice that will twist his life and the lives of his friends, irrevocably. Five years later, David looks back at the events of that last summer and embarks on a journey to recover what he lost, in the hope that he can finally let go.
