I love this show, as do my teenage sons. It's one of the funniest things BBC radio has ever produced. When you think that the list includes the Goons, that's praise indeed. The comparison is, I think, justified. Bleak Expectations' writer, Mark Evans, clearly shares Spike Milligan's love of language and profound sense of the ridiculous. All our favourite characters from the first two series return here, including, of course, Pip Bin, inventor of the bin, and the splendidly evil and inappropriately named Mr. Gently Benevolent, played to scenery-licking perfection by the great Anthony Head. To attempt to give a clue as to the plot would be an utter waste of time, yours as well as mine. Suffice to say, high Victorian absurdity continues to rule the waves and laughs come so thick and fast that you may have to listen repeatedly to catch the jolly japes and exquisite ejaculations you miss on first bending your ear-trumpet towards the radiophonic device due to the uproarious guffaws issuing from the throats of your esteemed companions. I assure you, dear reader, that the effort will prove most worthwhile.

I heard and loved the previous two series of Bleak Expectations and have listened to them again and again ~ still laughing out loud. I was certainly not disappointed by the third series. I have already listened twice and have only owned it for a week. Great stuff!

Very silly, very strange and very "English" should be taught in schools as a remeby for those who struggle with classic style writting or history or just instead of either or both. Read more

Certainly not at all bleak!
Simply hilarious! As good as if not better than the first 2 series. I laugh every time I see a swan now.
