I don't know how the other reviewer could give this book one star! This is one of the great sea-tales of the genre. Brian is a true and gentle hero who has become a great spokesman for the depredations we wreak upon the natural world. But more relevant than that he has the great travel writers gift of being the kind of person something weird is always happening to and he tells a good tale to boot. This is a brilliant book, I could not recommend it highly enough. The challenge was a modern odyssey-this book is an inspiration! And no we're not related! If you haven't read it yet, I envy you-you're in for a treat!

I concur with the other reviewer, how can somebody give this one star? When I looked at the cover with its jokey font (it was the previous edition) I did think from the title that perhaps this would be the story of an over-pumped seajockey. But Brian writes incredibly well, and with humility, insight and humour. The description of finding a dead dolphin is sheer poetry, of being played with by orcas thrilling, and the tension builds as the seas around the capes and headlands become rougher as he heads clockwise round the Scottish coast from Gretna towards the Pentland Firth. I'd never been on a sea kayak before but wanted to head out on one - and having been out for the first time recently, gained a real respect for his ability in paddling through some of the conditions described. If you like Scotland or the outdoors at all (and not just kayaking), do yourself a favour and buy this book!

A well written and exciting book. If you have been to the coasts of Scotland and love the nature and landscape then this book is for you. Brian Wilson takes you there in a true boys own adventure and whether you are a kayaker or not you will soak up the words and let them take you on a truly wondrous journey in Brians kayak.

A sea kayaking classic
This is a wonderful book, well written and describing a long paddle around scotland. It will make you want to grab your paddle and get out in the water!
