Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

This TV tuner accessory for the Game Boy Advance came as a great surprise: it's a great idea that actually works. It's very simple to use, clipping securely on to the rear of the GBA using the cartridge port (the tuner has a cartridge slot, in which a game must be inserted for it to work); extend the aerial and switch on your console. Once you're fired up there's a wealth of options available to you via a combination of the GBA's buttons: auto-tune, contrast, brightness, PAL type etc. Auto-tuning takes around two minutes, and the picture quality is very impressive, only restricted by the limitations of the GBA screen. The sound quality is also clear. Quality can be affected, however, if you try to use it where reception is poor--among big buildings, in moving vehicles etc. The tuner can also be connected to DVD players and other consoles, which is useful if the other TV in your house is being watched. Battery life (4x AA batteries) is around 110 minutes; the unit comes with an AC adaptor and Blaze has also indicated that they intend to release a car adaptor. All in all, this is a gimmick that turns out to be quite functional and surprisingly effective. --Laurent S Hall

5.0 out of 5 stars Watch TV on Your Gameboy Advance 19 July 2003
By A Customer
I bought this item due it's price being slashed, you can't buy a handheld TV for that. This product is perfect for taking with you if you go on holiday, you can play games and watch TV, the Quality is quite good if you get the aerial in the right position and the sound is much better than expected, it also has the ability to be connected to another console which i also found very useful. A definate buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars TV Tuner - Game Boy Advacne Accesory 28 Sep 2003
When I first saw this I immediatley wanted it and was right to get it. It is a brillaint piece of equipment offering a tuner and allows you to play your big consoles on it in case the regular TV breaks. It has good reception with the ariel and is a brilliant concept. The one downfall is you have to have a GBA gamew on hand to use it or the console wont recognize it. But its a good piece oof equipment nontheless - well worth the buy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Gadget 15 Jun 2004
By A Customer
This is item comes in very nice shiny packaging. The instructions are short but manage to explain most aspects of the tuner use.
The Menus are a bit clunky to use but once you get used to them they aren't to bad.
Depending on Station and Reception the quality can be very good on the GBA. I recomend plugging it into a house areal if you have one for best quality.
Another option is to use the GBA screen to watch DVD's or play video games through the cables provided. The quality on the screen is surprisingly good. I didn't know that the GBA screen was capeable of such a good picture. When tuned in perfectly the quality is comparable to the small TFT screens available for the Gamecube.

4.0 out of 5 stars Blaze Tv Tuner is HOT 9 Aug 2003
People say this is a useless item, I say it is well worth it, you cannot get a portable Tv at this price and if your on the moving the picture quality is bound to get weakened but this is expected when bought. Perfect for camping or travelling and you get an ac plug to watch it at home if you wish so your batteries do not get drained. The only flaw is that its perfect if you live in the country but quality is lowered if you live in urban areas with tall buildings. Good batteries last about 110 minutes and you will find you only use this when you are out and about. People who get angry at backlighting can also get a backlight fixed in their GBA with an Aftershock system made by third party people like Blaze. My last Summary is: Its not a TV and is not designed for watching straight off, its a gadget and I'm proud to own one

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice, but..... 19 Dec 2005
By "gworf"
NTSC version (Canadian Purchase)
Bought this unit on Dec 2005. Nice shiny box looked impressive already. Plugged GBA cart in tuner and away I went. Surprisingly and quickly found reception. Some of the channels look excellent, volume is also good. No frame skipping seems like it is 30fps, manual colour, brightness and contrast control, nice touch. I plugged in the mini cable adapter, great looking reception. Ran my mini dvd player, that too was exceptional. Not bad for 40 Canadian dollars.
After a hour of fiddling, here's what I noticed: Changing the channels via d-pad really sucks, need the use the select buttons and L/R to channel hop. Cable channels are not in the proper sequence I'd expect it to be. Can't be mobile (box indicates it's great on a bus, car, but manual says otherwise). Battery life is short to my standards. Used 2500mah rechargeable (NiMh). It last only 2 hrs. With 800mah rating on the unit I should get 3 hours of air time. I'll double check my batteries and try again later. Power adapter is HUGE, needs to go on a diet. They should have added a stand for GBASP users, now I have to create one. No display to indicate what channel you are watching unless you change the channel. No power switch. Im not sure if power is being used when GBA unplugged. One more peeve, I don't think it remembers the last channel watched after powering up device. I did not save the channels after capturing. On the to do list.
This is a great unit for the price, lots of minor problems but worth it in the long run, would recommend if you have an GBASP and cartridge already.
BTW my three star rating is good. I'm just very picky!

4.0 out of 5 stars A GOOD LITTLE GADGET 1 Nov 2003
I was really excited when i first got it. It was quite hard to first set up but after that you'll get used to it. It takes a while to get a good picture but when you've got it, it's good. It's useful to take around with you when you're out the ariel is quite big and the screen could be a bit bigger. But apart from that it's a great buy and i recomend everyone to buy it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, but essentially flawed. 16 Jan 2003
Making the gameboy advance a TV screen seemed to me originally a very silly idea.
But when the package eventually came through my door, and I plugged it in, it was great.
It has ok reception, and it is useful especially when you go out camping.
As a screen for the GC, well....
It works, and it's reasonably good quality, and I suppose it's good for portability.
Overall: good, but the essential flaws are the ones which stem from the gameboy advance's failings itself (eg. No backlight - it's really worth buying a wormlight or something)

4.0 out of 5 stars One of the best accesories yet! 23 Jun 2002
By A Customer
I was scanning through a catalogue one day when I came across the game consoles page. I looked up and down the page for the latest accesorie for my Game boy advance. Then I saw it. A TV tuner for the GBA!! I thought; this must be excellent!! I consulted my dad. "You'll never get a signal, you'll never get a picture and you'll never get the damn colour control working like on your uncles!", he exclaimed. That did'nt put me off. I ordered it from Amazon.com and got within a month. I couldn't wait to try it out! Sure you had to tilt the Game Boy a bit to get the right colour, but this is true in GBA games as well.
I also got a great signal using the fully extendable aerial and got an average of about 80 channels at a time! The brightness and contrast and volume dials were simple to work an reach and now i don't go anywhere without this ingeneous piece of work!
Get it now or you'll never get a chance again!!! GO!! GO!! GOOO!!!
