Brilliant Tale! 11 Sept. 2008
By Amanda M. Stephens - Published on

I first read about Queen Blanche in Four Queens: The Provencal Sisters Who Ruled Europe, and was fascinated. I did have to search a bit before I found this book, and I'm very glad I did!

Despite the fact that the book is 30 years old, it is a wonderful read! It really gives a great insite in to not only Blanche's self, but her family and the world in which she lived and ruled. A fascinating and captivating read about this tough, brilliant lady & mother of a Saint!
Highly recommend for amateur history buffs 11 Aug. 2014

Blanche of Castile keeps coming up in history books, but finally I found a full biography. It is written for college level, does not bog down with politics and extraneous issues. the history of the times and people are clearly and simply described which helps keep it all straight. She was a remarkable person and able to avoid warfare by a shrewd combination of diplomacy and beating her enemies to the punch. Highly recommend for amateur history buffs.

This is the standard biographical book on Blanche of Castile... to my knowledge no one has improved upon it.
