Product Description

BLANC(White)like purity and serenity.BLANC for luminous music that can bring interior peace through its strength and powerful evocation says the musician. The talented Angèle Dubeau brings us a new album filled with light. This recording tells a story,my story, the one of a women who, like so many others before, has grown and serenely come out of a battle against illness. After months of fighting against cancer,it is music that has allowed Angèle Dubeau to stay the course through the turmoil. Here again, the internationally renowned violinist shares her passion with the excellent musicians of her string orchestra,La Pietà,with whom she joyfully shares the stage since 1997.BLANC consists of 14 works from 12 composers of different horizons, all evoking the tranquil strengths and intensity of this exceptional violinist:Garry Schyman,Osvaldo Golijov,Adrian Munsey,Marjan Mozetich,Joe Hisaishi,François Dompierre,Ennio Morricone,Mark O'connor,Ryuichi Sakamoto,Dave Brubeck,Cat Stevens and Shawn Phillips. The violinist outstandingly undertakes a whole spectrum of colors and textures:Angèle Dubeau is a sensational musician, but she is also painting while she plays, says Russel Gloyd, comparing her bow to a paintbrush and her violin to a painting palette.Joe Hisaishi says:I get the impression that I found something I had lost. That is how powerful and evoking her playing is.Marjan Mozetich also compares her playing to a bursting ray of light or a sunrise gradually reaching its full morning glory.

I bought this album after hearing several tracks from it played on Classic FM. There were one or two tracks I liked less than the others; this being due to my dislike of much of the current "contemporary" music. This does not however detract from Angele's playing and there are some truly beautiful tracks on this album. Very suitable for relaxing on a long journey, such as 'The Distance Between' and 'Morning has Broken' Lovely album.

Blanc is music to tug at your heartstrings especially when you read Angele Dubeau's story. Most of the pieces are contemporary with their composers still alive. They are bursting with melody and conjure up pictures in the mind. I particularly like her interpretation of Mark 'O' Connor's music which I already have on another CD. La Pieta brings added dimensions to the music.
My favourite track is 'The Rain'. The melody is played on violin and then taken over by cellos and in the background is the sound of gentle healing rain.
I would recommend Blanc to anyone who may dismiss modern music as tuneless and often discordant; they will be in for a wonderful surprise. Also to anyone who wants to relax in a comfortable chair and just let beautiful music flow over them.
