Blake's 7 was the hit BBC space opera launched in the wake of Star Wars, though with a grittier sensibility and produced on a fraction of the budget. Over 13 episodes the first series introduced freedom-fighter Blake (Gareth Thomas) as he escaped from the Orwellian Federation, gathered a crew of low-life rebels, salvaged an alien starship called the Liberator, and began striking back against the forces of Supreme Commander Servalan (sultry Jacqueline Pearce).
The perfect foil for Blake was Paul Darrow's Avon, a near psychopathic criminal mastermind who only fought to save his skin. The cowardly Vila (Michael Keating) was almost as memorable, while the female leads were Jenna (Sally Knyvette), a smuggler and pilot, and determined Auron telepath Cally (Jan Chappell). Also on board was Gan (David Jackson), inhibited from violence by a brain implant.

I'd forgotten how much CGI and special effects had moved on - something about a youthful perspective making your memory of the series seem more impressive than it was?
Nevertheless this is the package I'd recommend - all 17 (+ bonus disc) discs in the one box, and at just £33 the best value of all the options available - I just want to revisit the series - I don't want flashy packaging or reams of extras, one disc is more than enough.
Just remember to turn the Dutch subtitles off - its the two option menu at the bottom left corner of the screen where you have the episode selection shown top right.

Yes, it *would* be a great-value set ... if the discs in it were okay. Sadly, I've had two sets out of two so far with discs that have deep circular scratches which cause my DVD player to go into spasms the moment it tries to read through them. Of course I've returned them, but I'm really worried other people have damaged disc and don't know about it ... yet. Series 2 Disc 2 and Series 2 Disc 4 were scratched this way in both copies I received, plus one Series 1 disc (either 2 or 4). It's clearly a fault of manufacture - either the discs are scratched as they are made or as they are put into the complex 17-disc case. It's not the sellers' fault, but buyer beware! You really do need to check all of the discs in the set you receive the moment you get it, and look out for these scratches.

Update: A third set - yes, I really want this series - has produced a set of discs which all at least appear to all play, but with no fewer than 5 discs rolling around loose in the box on arrival and Series 2 Disc 2 in particular still scratched in three of four different places. It looks as if either these sets get returned a lot (and not just by me!!!) or are being made up from discs already returned perhaps from the separate series sets. Buyer beware!

Well, only watched one episode so far but I grew up with the series as a young teenager so I know it's a five star series. I just want to say what great value this pack is, turn off the subtitles and you'd never know it was an import. Serious value for money!

This DVD release is EXCELLENT value for money, well-packaged, and benefits from clever design. The only small niggle I have, is that it doesn't have English subtitles; but that's not a reason to not give it five stars. Best value Blake's 7 DVD!

not 100 % - slight jump every so often in picture - not too noticable - only played 1st 2 discs so far - well worth the money sound is fine and subtitles can be turned off as someone else said - so makes no difference not being uk edition - highly recommend

what a trip down memory lane! This DVD arrived quickly and was well packaged. great condition and great picture and sound. only just watched the first couple of episodes as only recently received it but I know this will be something I will watch over and over again. I used to own the videos several years ago and I cannot believe it has taken me this long to replace with DVDs.
