Book Description

In Pennsylvania, Olrik escapes a federal prison by helicopter after a bloody attack. With Blake forced to cut short his holidays at the news, a disappointed Mortimer turns his attention to Greece, where an earthquake has uncovered an ancient chapel. Before long, people are trying to kill Mortimer over a mysterious Roman silver coin. Could the long-lost relic be one of the 30 denarii paid to Judas for his betrayal of Jesus? And who exactly covets it so much?

About the Author

Jean Van Hamme is one of Belgium's most successful contemporary novelists and comics writers. His most popular successes are "Thorgal," "Largo Winch," "Lady S.," and "XIII," all published in English by Cinebook. Rene Sterne was a Belgian author, creator of the series "Adler." Unfortunately, he passed away in 2006 before it was finished, and it was his wife Chantal De Spiegeleer who completed the work.

4.0 out of 5 stars Blake & Mortimer #13 14 Oct. 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
The Curse of the 30 Pieces of Silver, the thirteenth book featuring Edgar P. Jacobs' popular adventurers Blake and Mortimer to be translated into English, begins with a minor earthquake off the coast of the Mani Peninsula. While the earthquake itself could only manage to reach 4.2 on the Richter scale, it has a far greater impact than might initially be presumed as it results in the uncovering of a long-buried Christian chapel. Meanwhile, as the earthquake rumbles, Blake and Mortimer's old foe Count Olrik is on far firmer ground, for the time being at least, in a federal prison in Pennsylvania. However, the peace of the prison exercise yard is shattered when three helicopters swoop down and, after a bloody attack, Olrik is spirited away.

After news of Olrik's escape breaks, Captain Blake is dispatched by the British government to the United States to assist the CIA is recapturing the notorious villain. This results in his old chum Mortimer having no buddy to go on holiday with and so the Professor decides to accept a mysterious invitation from a Greek archaeologist. Mortimer has only been in the country for a few moments when hijinks and gunplay breaks out, but he does eventually learn that his Greek counterpart has called on him to assist with investigations into a potentially priceless and earth-shattering Roman relic that was discovered in the recently unearthed chapel.

The Curse of the 30 Pieces of Silver is another thrilling adventure featuring the redoubtable Blake and Mortimer. This particular volume is only part one of the story though but, fortunately, part two is due to be published in August.

The story is OK. I have read it a couple of times. Blake and Mortimer are good and they give a typical picture of the time they live in.
