Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

Here's an amazing radio-controlled helicopter that takes flying fun to another level - Bladez 3D! If RC pilots have started off with one of our other, simple-to-fly offerings, but are yearning for the a chance to develop their airborne skills, Bladez 3D offers a chance to progress to advanced flight manoeuvres and even more control, precision and power.

The Bladez 3D helicopter is designed to give RC pilots a ready-to-fly experience like no other and is factory built and flight tested so you can get airborne right away. It can fly just about anywhere, anytime, thanks to the innovative radio system that avoids interference with other RC users. You also get the benefit of an ingenious control system that provides the kind of locked-in, solid response that will let you fly even the most demanding maneuvers with absolute precision.

Fully capable of outdoor flight in still air or light winds, Bladez 3D is also suitable for indoor flight. Robustly constructed to be able to withstand rough landings, this sophisticated helicopter has a lot to offer intermediate to advanced RC pilots.

I'm certainly no expert but I have flown a few electric helicopters so I have some idea of their capability. The Bladez is very basic, as a radio controlled model; but compared to many of the helicopter toys around now this little model flies well. With relatively little effort the total beginner should be able to keep the Bladez in the air, given a reasonable space (beginners should avoid living rooms and the like until they can manage a reasonable hover). I'd say this little effort might cover say a weekend, taking in 10-15 'flights'.
Aside from ease-of-flying it's important to consider durability too. And the Bladez does very well on that front, with a good solid airframe which struck me as a surprisingly good build quality. Another nice feature of the heli itself is a built in lithium polymer (LiPo) battery, which is charged from the included balancing charger.
As is often the case with these budget-end electric helis, it's the transmitter that really lets the whole little outfit down. It's pretty ropey and very toy-like. Having said that however, it does the job and and should prove robust enough if handled reasonably.
It's important to understand that the 3-dimensional control that this heli is capable of is fairly limited (the 'more serious' models in this class have '4-dimensional' control)' despite the claims on the box of 'precision' control. My piloting skills are pretty basic but I did find that it was pretty much impossible to fly a nice clean, level circuit. The lack of the additional level of control that more sophisticated models have, (e.g EFlite CX2), makes it very difficult to achieve clean straight and level flight. Hovering, backwards and forwards flight are straightforward enough and you can follow a sort-of-circuit left and rightwards. The upshot of this is that it makes for a slightly gentler learning curve for the total novice, but will be of little interest when you are ready to start practising forward flight.
Overall I would say this little outfit is good value for the complete newcomer and a good buy if want to try your hand at RC helis without forking out £100+. And if you do get to the stage where you are getting frustrated at the Bladezs' lack of cooperation in forward level circuit flight then you'll be ready to pay the £100+ for a full-house electric heli and enjoy it a lot more as you'll be able to handle it reasonably well, avoiding a lot of the frustration that can go with learning to control these little beasts.

Bladez 3D Chopper 1 July 2008
Durability:    Educational:    Fun:
Ive had this little beast for a few months now and im still not bored of it! I think this toy has great control because i find that most indoor rc heli's dont really tend to go foward but this heli goes like a bullet in any direction, foward, backwards left and right. I have crashed this heli into many trees and it fell from about 15 meters and it still works as it did on the first day i got it. Only problem with this toy is that the battery life is a bit short because a 30-35 min charge gives you around 8 mins flying time but thats enough for me, gives me a break from chasing birds. Overall it is well worth its money, it's deffinatly top of its cheap rival rc helis.

SO I told my wife I wanted this Christmas and true to her word I bought it for myself in February. Its my problem you see. I just buy "Stuff" apparently. I got it out of the box and I was a little surprised at the quality, it wasn't half bad. I immediately put all the batteries where they should go and switched it on in eager anticipation. Nothing. Ahh I have to charge it. Ok, no problem, I took the charger out, plugged it in and saw a green light! Happy days it must have come ready charged!! I unplugged it again and....nothing? Ok, let charge it again, green light immediately.........well I did this a few times of course it took about ten attempts until I finally read the instructions. What kind of buffoon makes a charger that lights green when you plug it in and then the light goes out when its charged? Madness.

Ok, so now throttle up, blades fire into life, helicopter leaps up into the air and hits the ceiling so hard 2 feet of moulding come off the ceiling. Oops. Helicopter crashes down and bounces off my cup of tea. There is tea and plaster everywhere. I'm giving up until tomorrow.

Tomorrow arrives and I try again, this time with a little more success and actually get it to fly in a stable hover(ish) and manoeuvre around a little. I am feeling quite pleased with myself before I realise I have to turn it round. Oh dear, left is now right and vice versa. I decide more power is required and push the throttle. The helicopter leaps up and I panic remembering the coving issues of yesterday and kill the throttle. The helo commences a "Death Spiral" and is heading for my wife's freshly bought vase of orchids. In blind panic I resort to the standard male defence mechanism. MORE POWER!!!! I shove the throttle hard and watch in slow motion as it scythes through said orchids, decapitating them like King Henry at a wife lopping party!

I am not allowed to play with this any more in the house. Its a shame because its soooo much fun. Its really well built and withstands more punishment than I can give it.
all in all its a super toy. My wife hates it with a passion.

Great Fun! (but a little big for indoor flight!)
This helicopter is great fun to fly and really fairly easy. The trick is to be brave and fly straight up to about 3-4 ft above the ground. Read more
