Product Description

Kara is a mercenary – a Diamond warrior, the best of the best, and a member of the notorious Majat Guild. When her tenure as protector to Prince Kythar comes to an end, custom dictates he accompany her back to her Guild to negotiate her continued protection.

But when they arrive they discover that the Prince’s sworn enemy, the Kaddim, have already paid the Guild to engage her services – to capture and hand over Kythar, himself.

A warrior brought up to respect both duty and honour, what happens when her sworn duty proves dishonourable?

“Both Kyth and Ellah are likeable characters and it is a joy to follow their stories… There is a fairly even balance between the emotional aspects of the story and some fast-paced, ninja-style fight scenes, which leads to this being a pleasant, easy read and an entertaining story. A solid start to what looks to be an exciting series.”
- British Fantasy Society

“This is a magnificent work of literature. You get fast paced travel with political intrigue and danger, amazing martial arts fights of extreme skill, cultural immersion from around the world, and a little hint of romance without ruining the tough fighter feel… I really cannot express enough times how highly I recommend this story to everyone.”
- In Pursuit of My Own Library

“This book is action packed from the very first page, and is a good start to a series that I will look forward to reading more of.”

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent story 26 May 2014

The story is good, and the ideas behind it work and make me want to know how it will be resolved. Unfortunately it fails on the common problem, stupid characters. Characters appear willfully dumb in order to serve plot points, they are supposedly adults, but several of the main characters behave like moonstruck children. If you have a clever plot development great, but that's only half way. You need introduce your characters to it cleverly, or your supposedly clever characters appear to be idiots.

Also having a twist that doesn't occur until about 20% of the way through the book in your public description is pretty much unforgivable. I know it's signalled as blatantly as a reg rag to a bull with how much the characters talk about how it won't happen, but putting in in the description is just ridiculous. (Probably the publishers fault rather than the author though).

4.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating and original 20 Aug 2014

Very enjoyable narrative with some I interesting twists on the usual magic and myth tales. Sex stuff delightfully tasteful, a nice change from the excessively graphic they usually are. I am impressed with the good English from a Russian, also a nice change to read something from someone of another nationality.
One mark off for a few typos and the usual awful American spelling but at least not one use that I noticed of the overused `atop` which I have so come to loathe. Still a bit heavy on the emphasis on females breasts and nudity and the spiders aspect was somewhat cringeworthy, but all in all very enjoyable, with a good number of different characters all off in different directions and activities and I hope book 2 goes into more depth regarding the history of each one of them.
