its about time that someone wrote a book with this open faced honesty. the life of a football thug has always been cloudy to the general public. blades business crew is funny, brutal, eye-opening, controversal and above all it tells it how it is not how you think it is. its by far the best book of its kind on a subject that is very misunderstood.

Another of the strong books from the Milo Books stable, that also published recent tales by Peter Walsh about Curtis Warren and Mickey Francis.

This is an account of the BBC as seen by one of their top boys and is an excellent record of their match day activities. Unlike the books written by many others in this genre, you know that the author is giving a realistic account. He chronicles tales covering 1981 to 1989 in great detail. Anyone who went to games at that time will immediately identify with what he talks about. The book carries on to the modern day and Cowens is as honest as any author has been in this type of book.

The book contains a forward by Paul Heaton and that is worth a read too. This book is a "must read" book for anyone interested in this subject matter.

I am a Leeds fan - or shirter as Mr Cowans would name me! I have followed Leeds around but always kept away from the trouble from the 80s.

This book was my attempt to understand why people feel the need to have a go week in week out - under the banner of football. The narrative is spouted by Cowens and makes it a very readable affair. The thing is when you have heard one or two of the tales you've pretty much heard them all. There does seem to be this ill conceived attempt at honour but I have to say that although it is maintained that he supports the Blades first I get the impression that to 'have a pop' is the top priority. And whatever is said the BBC and such firms have managed through the media to drag the games profile down over the years. I always find it hard to believe that 'shirters' or other supporters have not been involved and hurt over the years - when it kicks off on the streets and pubs its obvious innocent fans will get hassled.

This is interesting and an honest enough account I am sure.
