To call this cut of Blade Runner ‘long awaited’ would be a heavy, heavy understatement. It’s taken 25 years since the first release of one of the science-fiction genre’s flagship films to get this far, and understandably, Blade Runner: The Final Cut has proved to be one of the most eagerly awaited DVD releases of all time.
And it’s been well worth the wait. Director Ridley Scott’s decision to head back to the edit suite and cut together one last version of his flat-out classic film has been heavily rewarded, with a genuinely definitive version of an iconic, visually stunning and downright intelligent piece of cinema. Make no mistake: this is by distance the best version of Blade Runner. And it’s never looked better, either.
The core of Blade Runner, of course, remains the same, with Harrison Ford’s Deckard (the Blade Runner of the title) on the trail of four ‘replicants’, cloned humans that are now illegal. And he does so across an amazing cityscape that’s proven to be well ahead of its time, with astounding visuals that defied the supposed limits of special effects back in 1982.

OK So this is my very first High Def movie i have bought.
And i was not disappointed either... the picture quality is breath taking.
The original negatives have been scanned and digitally enhanced, removing all scratches, dust and imperfections. I was worried that a movie this old would not stand up to viewing on my 50" plasma, but the first frame totally blew me away. The 5.1 surround sound track was not as great as i thought it could be, but didnt spoil the viewing pleasure.
I was surprised that the Blu Ray disc only contains 1 version of the film, and the brilliant 'making of' documentary is contained on a separate disc (and not HD either) so much for the extra storage capacity.

This is an awesome quality of Blade Runner in High Def + The making in every imaginable aspect over 3 and a half hour on DVD + Vangelis music on a CD.
Blade Runner depicts the future of a world run by corporations. A world in darkness. It is about the essential of being human even in such a place. A place were "cyborgs-replicants" in flesh and blood are born to be slaves. And to prevent them from developing feelings they have a 4 year lifespan.
Everything is overpopulated and cramped.The houses are like towering shadows coming together over people.
You have to make Your own interpretations. But You can get some hints in the aboundant extra material.
The quality is pristine in every way. It is the last analog sci-fi. The analog shots right in the camera from reality gives it an atmosphere that cannot be obtainet by computeranimated CGI effects. The actors agree on that.
It is a piece of art. It is a milestone. And this edition is best buy!

Format:Blu-ray
Blade runner still has to be one of my favorite films. When the movie was on general cinema release I was not old enough to see the big screen experience so I am waiting with bated breath for the enhanced blu ray edition. If you have never seen this film, a fan of sci fi or not, then you must rent or buy it. A classic.

Typical UK Release
Do not by the uk blu-ray version as you only get 1 version of the film, buy the American release it works out around the same price and you get 5 versions of the film. Read more
