Product Description

Fox 20" Electric Start Quad-Cut® Petrol Lawn Mower. New for 2014: If you want the portability of a petrol lawn mower but find a recoil starting mower a problem and prefer the ease of a push button start - we have the answer. Using the Wolf 5.5hp electric start engine, this machine comes complete with built in battery and mains top up charger. When you want clean cut mowing from a petrol lawn mower you need a Fox Quad-Cut® Mower. Fitted with a special "QUAD-CUT®" 4 blade cutting technology, these blades cut at 200mph and give twice as many cuts per revolution when compared to a conventional mower. The large 20" cutting diameter of this lawn mower makes mowing the lawn quick and easy to use on any medium to large sized garden. The Fox 20" Quad-Cut Electric Start petrol lawn mower is driven by the powerful electric start WOLF 5.5HP 4 stroke engine. This high performing engine not only powers the blade which will cut your grass swiftly leaving a finely manicured lawn, but also has more than adequate power to drive the self propulsion at a speed to suit the operator. Notable features of this lawn mower are the push button starter for a quick and easy start, the 4 in 1 facility which means that: It will cut. It will cut and collect. It will mulch. It will side discharge the fine lawn clippings. For grass collection the machine has a large 50L collection box with grass level indicator and is supplied with a removable side discharge chute to spread lawn clippings for fertilisation. Cuts well but less manoeuvrable than I expected. Express delivery was next day following despatch as expected. The mower was well packed but the assembly instructions were inadequate. The electric start is very good and the machine performs well.

This mower represents terrific VFM but there are drawbacks - Some self-assembly is required which, while not difficult in itself, is not helped by poorly presented instructions. The self-starting model is easy to operate, starts easily by depressing the starter button for a few seconds, remembering to prime the carburettor first, and cuts grass very-efficiently.
The grass box is, however, another matter! It is certainly not easy to fit and remove as the cables to the battery and starter button are just too short and restricts fitting the box! It is impossible to route the cable as shown in the illustration and the cable actually runs directly, i.e. via the shortest route, between the battery housing and the motor - Certainly not along the handle, as illustrated, as the cable is way too short to enable this! I found it easier to cut, extend and re-route the cable for a MUCH easier life!
The oil required, 10 - 40W semi-synthetic, is not included and I was unable to find the sump's capacity anywhere in the 'instructions' (These really could be improved in general). I bought some Castrol oil from Halfords and found that 700/750mls were required.
Helpful people, via e-mail when I presented my problem although they have not acknowledged, as yet, my last e-mail which contained photographs to illustrate the grass box fitting problem and these clearly show that the electrical cable restricst fitting.
I would recommend the mower, but with some reservations concerning my comments above - Once set up it's a very efficient, albeit heavy, mower!

Once set up this gives a really good quality cut and runs smoothly. Unfortunately I experienced several niggles; the electric starter unit is hard to fix as the tool supplied does not fit into the plastic housing. In fact the hand starter works really well and the electric starter may not be really needed. The other problem is that one of the wires keeps becoming disconnected within the starter unit. The wire connecting the starter unit to the motor also keeps getting in the way of the grasshopper whenever it is removed as it is not long enough. The instructions booklet also does not cover charging of the electric starter unit. All these problems can be worked around but they are annoying

I was the FA groundsman of the years in 2002, so I know about movers and this is a very good mover, it cuts lovely with new 4 quad blades, and the mulching facility is the way forward, it has a electric start which starts so easy and first time, im really impressed with this mover, and would highly recommend it

Good machine, it is bigger than expected and also travels slower than anticipated on full speed but it cuts the grass perfectly well.

I think the manfacturers have acted on the previous comments by purchasers of this product, as the the mower arrived with all of the cables attached to their respective connections on the mower and the handle; all that was required was for the handle to be connected to the mower. Disappointingly, the front wheel shaft on one side had been bent making one of the wheels misaligned. This could have been the fault of the mower having been laid on its side in its packing at some time, and the weight of the mower been taken by the front wheel. On inspection I think the bracket specification needs to be increased to prevent this occourence. This is not a lightweight machine to operate and would perform best in gardens where there are few tight turns to be made!. The mower performs very well and the powerful engine will tackle all jobs. Good value for money

The battery charge doesn't last long but the push button start is brilliant. BIT LOUD!
