Don't just read these. KNOW them.
Amazon's price is excellent and you still get the discount card for the Online questions, just in case you wondered. (Just be aware that the Click and Buy/OUP scheme requires you to log into C&B before you can access the Manuals, then you have to log into the Q&A seperately. Make a note of your passwords if you want to use elsewhere than at home, and then get your computer to remember the passwords for you, saves valuable study time. Can't be helped at work, took so long to log in it wasn't worth it, far to busy).
Big Tip, read the Keynotes, and pay special attention to the stated cases. A vast number of the questions are based on these. If you're longer in service especially, you need to make sure you read very thoroughly, the legislation has changed so much.
For instance, I went on a study course, and it was remarkable how many people didn't remember that rape is no longer one of the ulterior intents of Burglary 9.1.a.
Good luck to all 2009 candidates.

I'm really not very keen on sitting the Police promotion examination but with 17 years service I suppose the time has come to think about finally applying myself. So, to study...
If spare time is something you're short of because, let's face it, you've probably got a life that work already gets in the way of, these Manuals are a must for you.
Easy to read and understand they are well structured and contain plenty of relevant case law examples.
The added beauty of them is that the Police Review promotion section is actually structured to work alongside them so you get the benefit of someone else calculating your study programme for you in case you're not up to it yourself.
Now the only excuse for everyone else around you being promoted is you!
