The Wolf of Wall Street is a locked room mystery with a difference and features Sam Blackstone, the Scotland Yard detective who by default has been seconded to the New York Police Department. In a review it wouldn't be fair to state just how this particular locked room mystery is different, but take my word for it, it is!
As I've probably mentioned elsewhere I only started reading the Blackstone series because sadly, their author Sally Spencer had retired DCI Charlie Woodend her other creation. But now I'm reading them because they are good, very good indeed. At first I wasn't at all sure how this genial detective would fit in to the new location of New York, but he does so surprisingly well. He still manages to get up the noses of officialdom and as he does so, you know who's side you are on.
A very rich tycoon has been murdered or is at least missing from his palatial house on Coney Island. It is the job of Blackstone and his sidekick Alex Meade to discover the truth, or as Blackstone's bosses hope, fail to discover the truth. This is the second Blackstone novel which also features Alex Meade and he is already growing nicely into the role created for him.
I don't know if the sea around Coney Island is stocked with red herring, but a good few of them seem to have found there way into this excellent page turning mystery. Naturally in the end Blackstone gets his man (or is it woman), but not before a full quota of dead bodies have made cameo appearances. An enjoyable read which will keep you guessing up to and including the final page. Highly recommended!
