This fantastic little (but strong) magnifing glass is the answer to my problems reading large-scale maps! The innovative LED lights on one side provide very bright, or not-quite-so-bright, illumination (5 lights on, or 1 light on)making it possible to read maps and documents in all brightness conditions. The casing is rubberised so it does not slip around, or damage if it falls. Why have I not asked Santa for one of these before? Maybe I didn't know they existed.

My one gripe with this product, I can only view decent magnification of images when viewing them with one eye closed. When using both eyes to view (with or without wearing glasses) the image was distorted no matter how I changed angle and distance from object. To be fair this could be just an issue with my eyes, as none of the reviews mention this (as yet). But it is a pain in the proverbial.

The product itself though, I'd give it a 5* for magnification and when using the LED's.... wow! Makes a huge difference. Batteries came supplied, which is a bonus.

*EDIT* Just noticed, the information mentions that this product uses "4 x AG10 button cell batteries", but batteries supplied and fitted are 2 x AAA

I am sure that there are better on the market, but at many times the price of this item. However, this really does the job well. It is a sturdy, substantial feeling item which was unexpected give the price bracket. On its own it has good, clear magnification but it also has back lights which can be used on two settings to give additional illumination. It comes supplied with two AAA batteries, which as noted by others, are not what is in the product description but are much easier to source as replacements. Having just reviewed a £50 plus item which did not come with batteries this is a big bonus.

It is no exaggeration to describe this as an amazing bargain at around the current price. It certainly punches well above its weight.

I would estimate the power of this magnifier to be about two and a half times.

To enable the illumination you will need to remove the battery cover which is part of the handle. I found this difficult and had to use a small screwdriver to do so. This done you will find two AAA batteries each of which is covered in a perfectly clear film which is difficult to see, but you can feel it. This film is easy to remove and then the batteries can be replaced.

As others have said there are two settings for brightness, I find the first setting good enough, the second is extremely bright. As someone else said, be careful to make sure the illumination is completely switched off when you're finished as there is very little movement of the switch from "off" to setting one.

The lens measures about two inches either side which is a bit on the small side but I find it ideal for reading the microwave instructions on the back of Tesco ready meals.

I continue to use my standard magnifier to scan the TV times magazine because of its bigger lens and consequent wider field of view.

Overall, not bad for around the £4 mark including p&p.

This product is excellent. There are a few settings (lights off, on partially or on fully) and it really makes it easy to read small print. It's light and is easy to use. Great value product!
