Product Description

Great Games and Accessories for the Xbox 360 from Gamesbuyer.

Manufacturer's Description

BlackSite: Area 51 is a next-generation game that redefines the first person shooter (FPS) genre. While other FPS titles claim to feature ‘action-packed, highly realistic gameplay’, BlackSite: Area 51 takes next-gen gaming to an all-new level integrating cutting edge technology, game design and story writing to create the ultimate entertainment experience. The player’s modern-day emotions and fears are driven into a world charged with grave responsibility affecting lives hanging in the balance, eventually finding himself torn between his professional orders and his own ethical standards. In the end, only the actions of the player and his squad can shape the outcome of BlackSite: Area 51 during this potentially pivotal moment in history.

I played this game having been impressed by the demo and confused by the dismissive review I saw on television. If you set aside comparisons with Half Life 2 and Gears of War, which have clearly influenced Blacksite's creators, it is actually very enjoyable. There were even a few novel settings - notably the detailed and varied garden exploration section (compare this with the drab office buildings which saturate the very much overrated 'FEAR'), and a strong sense of atmosphere. Difficulty was just right (on hard) for a casual player such as myself, and the admittedly flimsy plot rollocks along at a fair pace.

If you want to nit-pick, there are some of the worst 'invisible walls' I've ever encountered and I once tried to drive down some stairs and ended up with my vehicle floating in midair. The morale thing didn't seem to make much difference to my team (but earned me a nice little achievement in the latter stages). Give it a go. I rented it and it only took a couple of days.

If there is one genre that the 360 does not suffer a lack of it is the First Person Shooter (FPS). On a console that contains such classics as `Half Life 2', `Bioshock' and `Halo 3' (to name but three) anything short of excellent is shot down in flames and this is what happened to `Blacksite' on its release. Immediately pigeon holed as not good enough people choice to ignore it, but this is a shame as there is a reasonable game here. `Blacksite' will win no awards, but of the other FPSs out there it is amongst the better ones. You take the role of a solider that has been sent into Redneck America to uncover the strange goings on. It seems that aliens have invaded and you must get to the root of the problem.

`Blacksite' is like any other FPS; the controls are solid as is the gun fire. There are a varied enough number of enemies to keep it interesting and the banter between you and the other soldiers in your group is decent. There is the basic ability to send your men into battle first before you which is interesting too. However, nothing goes above acceptable and it makes the game average. The story mode is a little short and the battles slightly uninspiring. This is a game that can now be picked up at a cheaper price and I think £15 or so is perfectly an acceptable price to pay. Average, but fun.

I wonder when the subject of aliens and ufos will be given the gaming treatment it deserves. This game nearly got there but fails to really pull it off. There is no passion here Im afraid which is a shame because it could have been so much better. That being said however it was fun to play through once but once it was done it was all over for me. There were some good moments in it that could have been much better and the unreal engine saved it from being worse. If like me your wondering to get it my suggestion is rent it first.
The story is luke warm the game play is like taking your dog for a walk if you have played every shooter going its just another shooter with nothing new to offer but and its a big but it was fun to take out for a walk.
Seemed like the guys making the game just ran out of passion and said ah that will have to do lets see if we can sell it.The helicopter scene with big alien was very good though and has a brief feeling that i was playing gears again.. but that all.. bit like a fire work display all over to quickly.
Final summing up
Fun but too short and lacking in passion.

Okay, so another shooter for our, lets admit it, already pretty saturated shooter market. Blacksite takes a number of ideas from higher profile titles, mixes them up with a b-movie plot and some good graphics, and gives you a fairly short campaign mode and your typical multiplayer modes. However, the game also provides one thing missing far too often for me - a healthy dose of entertainment. From start to finish Blacksite is fun to play, which is surely what we all play our games for. Blacksite is not worth the full retail price, but if you can pick it up cheaply, then I would suggest you give it a chance, rather than missing another solid title from Midway.

This game was surprisingly very good fun. Graphics and background very good, gameplay fine and the pace alright. Like many such games, the storyline is a bit thin, but more than made up for the overall feel of the game. The Iraq part of the game, in particular is very well put together. Recommended if you like GRW or MOH or COD. Don't take too much notice of reviewers here whor rate it porrly just because its not as good as some other game. You can enjoy more than one brand!

Ok so it's another Xbox shooter and I won't say much.

Basically that's what it is, another Xbox shooter. Nothing special, nothing new or innovative, just another shooter with an average, very short campaign and average multiplayer mode.

Great graphics, great fun aswell, but very short and seems a very small game yet steep price for £40.

Get it if there's nothing else taking your fancy, that's what I did, but otherwise, get something else.

3/5

In Blacksite, the player takes the role of the leader of a small special forces unit, who is sent on a disastrous mission to Iraq, in which one of his squad is killed in an underground bunker by entities unknown to science. Several years later, he and the surviving members of the squad (and the replacement who seems to be from Ul Quoma in the city and the city, as he is ignored and forgotten as fast as is humanly possible) are sent into a town near area 51 in order to pt down an "insurgency", however, upon arrival they are sucked into a nightmare of hit tech weaponry, seemingly undead soldiers, aliens and conspiracies. For the setting and the ideas presented, the game is good. The few characters are very entertaining to listen to as they happily chat away to each other in the quiet moments, of which there are a fair amount. The game also gets points for it's detailed (if not particularly innovation or large) level design and inventive enemies. It's a welcome break from the utter tedium of COD games, yet it feels close enough with all its idiotic, right wing, caucasian soldiers to perhaps be used to draw some of your friends into more imaginative gaming.
however, the game does have a few problems that prevent it being a game that i have actually kept. It is FAR to short, everything following the town can be played through inside an hour, and the story gives the impression that the scriptwriters are trying to present some interesting ideas, yet are unable to express it to the early teen audience that will inevitably end up playing this and simply gave up, resulting in a storyline that is difficult at best and incomprehensible at worst. The cover, menu and opening sequence also give the impression that this is quite a dark, scary game. and it really, really isn't.
