Best Edition of the Best Dictionary 20 July 2014

There's not much to say. $130 for a five pound dictionary. This deluxe 10th edition of Black's replaces my standard 9th edition. I also have the two volume deluxe edition of Bourvier's. You can't go wrong with either.

An extra $50 for the deluxe Black's upgrade buys you a puffy faux leather cover and finger-tabs. I won't pretend that it's worth the extra money. Books are my weakness, so I always splurge on the best copy.

I will say that purchasing the 10th edition Black's is a savvy upgrade if you currently own an older version. This edition has 7,500 new terms (post-9th edition published in 2009). I find the most recent version of Black's definitions invaluable for grad school, law school, and for use in court. Seeing that Black's publishes a new edition roughly every five years, investing in the gold standard (either the deluxe or standard 10th edition counts!) is a worthwhile purchase for a book you'll reference for the next half decade.
