This is the second album i've heard by Shining, the other being grindstone.
Blackjazz has a slightly 'simpler' sound than grindstone,
there are less samples, and the sound is more instrument based.
Shining obviously come from a scandinavian metal background and
this is more obvious on Blackjazz than Grindstone.
Of course claiming that Blackjazz is a stripped back album for Shining
is slightly ridiculous, they still sound like a a room full of lunatics.
Parts of it are jawdroppingly awsome, albums dont get much more exciting
than this, the punishing rythmn and sparse distorted vocals are fantastic
I whole hearted recommend this album, this is a group that deserve some
praise for cultivating such a unique off-kilter style, also it has to be
said, that mental as this album is it's not difficult to get into, the rythmn
and drums are enough to keep things accessible (ish).
Shinings music is full of unique character, it has an insane genius to it,
and the album artwork is phenomenal to, just look at that type!
