I do a lot of flying, and I'm often wondering "is the pilot's mind really on the job in hand", and "is there anyone hiding in the undercarriage". This book tells the complex and amusing story of a group of apparently unconnected individuals who are in fact all linked by a tragic event long ago. The best part of the book is the way in which the characters all interweave in and out of each others lives, before the plot resolves itself in a gripping and dramatic climax.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a cleverly put together and original story, with brilliant flashes of humour. Frequent and nervous fliers included.

Gripping and intriguing, I couldn't get this novel out of my head while I was reading it, or for days afterwards. The plot and the format are so original and clever, my brain was engaged until the end, and longer while I pieced it all together. The reader is kept on their toes by seemingly throw-away sentences which turn out to be highly significant to the story, so you have to concentrate. But Walker credits his audience with the intelligence to cope with this.

The story involves a fascinating collection of dysfunctional characters, who, through various twists of fate and many of life's little ironies, find that a healthy conscience can catch up with you in a big way, whether over 24 years or 24 hours.

I recommend this as a great read, unless you're in the film industry, then don't even bother, just buy the rights!

This huge web of story strands keeps you on your toes, which I liked a lot. the humour's good, as are most of the characters. After a while, I wondered where it was all going. I sort of knew I wasn't going to get a payoff at the end and I didn't. It's still worth it though.
