The item is titled "BlackBerry ASY-18683-001" and the description says "Original Blackberry USB Data Cable!" However, the item I received from "Tech Consultant Ltd" was not a Blackberry original. It seems at least two other reviewers have had the same problem, perhaps some from different suppliers.
You may prefer this cable to the Blackberry original or you may not but as the item says it's an original Blackberry cable, it is reasonable to expect that that is what you will get. I have no problem with people offering cheaper, non-brand alternatives; I do have a problem if they are passed off as originals.
Personally I believe this cable to be a poor substitute; it's very short (1M), very thin (perhaps half as thick as Blackberry's own), and the plastic seems of a poor quality. The thinness might account for some people's problems transferring data with this cable as it is undoubtedly a badly shielded cable.
This item seems to have lots of sellers and I am not clear if this is just a problem with Tech Consultant Ltd's supply. I bought this as it was Prime eligible and fulfilled by Amazon so I knew if there was a problem I would have a hassle free return process.
If you absolutely must have an original Blackberry cable (and I did so that I could return the equivalent of what I had been given and lost), then I would treat this listing with caution. At the same time as ordering this item, I also ordered the boxed Belkin version (
Belkin Hi-Speed 2.0 Micro USB Cable, USB A to Micro B, 1.8m) directly from Amazon for myself as I didn't mind not having the Blackberry branded version. The Belkin cable is great quality and was the same price as this cheap impostor cable. I have now gone to Carphone Warehouse and paid £9.99 for a true Blackberry cable.
