I have used 'hands free' via the Satnav and on two different units attached to the car's visor. None of them come near to the performance and usability of the HS500.
It is so easy to use and reception is so clear that it seems that the person that you are talking to is standing behind you.

If you have little ears, this isn't much use. Technically and performance-wise it's really good but, alas, for me, pretty unusable.
I found the clip that goes over your ear a bit difficult to adjust and it took me ages to get the headset adjusted properly. When I did, I found it uncomfortable as it was just too big for my ear. Even with the smallest ear rubber, it was no good and even without a rubber I couldn't keep it in long.
It was incredibly painful if I wore it for more than 5 minutes and, as I needed to have an earpiece in most of the time when I was working, it was no good. I ended up swapping back to a cheaper, but comfortable earpiece that I could leave in without any problem.

The design is good. The button is discreet.
The on/off switch is simple.
The lighting to tell you what's happening is clever, but you need to keep your instruction manual around you, if you want to know what they mean.
Green flash twice for this, flash three times for that, flashes once for this.
Blue flashes twice for this, flashes once for that.
Flashes blue and red for this...
And so it goes on.
The earpieces are perfectly fine. As are the two ear hooks for your size of ear.
The PROBLEM is that when you hear someone else on your bluetooth, who is using theirs (same HS-500) there is way to much background coming from theirs. I had someone who was in their house and I could hear so much going on, and it almost muffled her voice. At one point I thought she could have been in a railway station.
The mic should be sensitive to only up to 1 metre away - if that!! Not 10ft or more.
My clock was 8ft away from me, and she could hear ticking over my voice.
So while I wanted to give it 4/5 (as 5/5 would have had to be spot on perfect), I can't. I have to give it three, as the main crux of a bluetooth is to give and receive clear wireless audio. This doesn't do it all that well in my view.
