The Widow's been a favourite of mine since she first adopted the 'Emma Peel' look and this is an expertly crafted tale from recommended writer Cornell that explains Natasha's history and longevity in such a perfect and solid fashion, I'm amazed it hasn't been done before! There's not the flashes of comedy that Cornell often brings and at only four issues this is a slim volume but I was not as jarred by the flashback art as the other reviewer, this misses on the fifth star for me because of it's brevity only. Action, intigue, characterisation and continuity. Classy.

I really enjoyed reading this graphic novel as I was curious about the origins of the Black Widow. Naturally the book leaves some questions unanswered for later developments in the comic world but for someone with limited knowledge of this world this is a good introduction and starting point.

Natascha is one of the coolest superheroes; she turns up in all different stories, from the street hero-level (DD, Cage, Iron Fist) to Avengers level, and keeps contributing. This is a good origin story BUT as in many Marvel stories these days the book is lowered by the continious change of artists. They change tooooo much. That splits the story in a bad way.
Please Marvel: when you have your excellent writers, let they have ONE artist for a while. (Like Brubaker/Lark-era!!!)
