Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

Will you be an evil or benevolent deity? From the creative mind of god game developer Peter Molyneux comes Black & White 2: Collectors Edition, the sequel to the critically acclaimed hit Black & White. In this strategy game, you reprise your role as a powerful deity in search of a following and return to the once idyllic world of Eden, where the discovery of weaponry and warfare has tainted the beautiful landscape. With the help of your gigantic Creature that you raise from infancy, you must earn the respect and worship of the natives. How you choose to do that, whether through nurturing them or terrorizing them, is up to you.

The player will have many choices to make in Black & White 2. Once you and your creature have convinced the people that you are a god, you then have to decide if you are going to care for your believers, building them huge cities that are beautiful and safe, or if are you going to rule the land causing death and destruction by leading vast armies into battle.

As players enter this warring world they will have the option to make tribes coexist peacefully, encouraging villages and towns to grow into metropolises, or prompting them to inflict their will upon others by creating and commanding large armies that seek to dominate and conquer.

You have a Creature to do your bidding and train as you will, and you may rule over your people as you wish. This evolved Creature can help you nurture their communities grow into huge, towering cities. Or you may use death, suffering and fear. The Creature has been massively advanced since the original Black & White, and now has a vital role as a military leader and command unit. He can learn strategies, lead armies into battle and is the ultimate battlefield weapon himself, armed with many powerful new attacking and shielding Miracles. The epic world of Black & White is yours for the asking. But remember - if you want peace, prepare for war. This Special Collectors Edition comes with an additional Creature in the main game, a making-of DVD, and is packed in a special case

Key features

  • Wage massive wars, sieges and battles or use your skill and power to keep the peace.
  • Discover and use new Epic Miracles, including the ground-ripping Earthquake and volcanoes, which cause rivers of lava.
  • Choose and customize the Creature that's right for you from a selection, including old favorites as the Ape, Cow, and Lion, plus many others.
  • Research and create new forms of weaponry, from swords to bows to siege machines.

  • Control and marshal huge and varied armies.

    A brilliant sequal 27 Nov 2005
I am really enjoying playing this game.I think it has improved on the original. There seems to be a lot more happening in this new game.Far better than the "keep people fed" in the last one. Also the graphics have been improved and the creature is much easier to teach so you don`t have to keep such a close eye on him/her all the time and he/she can learn much faster than in the first game. All in all a very worthy sequal.

    Fun:
It's taken me three years to review this, but now I feel I must. I've played this on-off since I bought it and during my last attempt at finishing it I had to cheat to get through the tedium in order to see the "sandbox" mode - which isn't really a sandbox mode anyway.

The good points are that the city building is much better - there are many more buildings to choose from although they should have all been available from the start instead of making you play through various boring silver challenges to get the tribute to buy them. Unfortunately there is only one playable race (Greeks) and only three enemy races (Norse, Japanese and Aztec). It would have been nice to see neutral villages of different race which would have made things a bit more interesting. I didn't really see the point in introducing a further resource - ore. As a God game it's miles behind its predecesssor.

The creatures are all great and well animated - especially the alignment characteristics. It's a crying shame that there are only four (or five - depending on which version you bought) to choose from after the previous game had many more.

More problems are that the newly introduced combat doesn't really work because the enemy AI has unlimited numbers of people and can seemingly conjure up armies from nowhere to send marching against you. If the game can cheat, then I feel no shame in doing the same.

I remember being blown away by the original game which was excellent for its time, but I think Black and White 2 really let itself doing by being simply bland and shallow. It's fun enough to play through once but I highly doubt I'll be playing through it again because there is nothing drawing me back to it.

    Some basics 8 Oct 2005
    By A Customer
Word of warning to anyone buying, save some cash and get the standard version.

The "Additional Creature in main game" was released twice now to any Tom, Dick or Harry that happened to want it by EA so the additional cost is only for the other stuff which lets face it, it's not worth it.

Apart from that the game is not bad, if you played the first game this is how it breaks down:

B&W1 = Has gameplay longevity because of elements like multiplayer with reasonable visuals.

B&W2 = Lots of gameplay reduction like no multiplayer (Don't lisent to the fans, nobody official has said anything about adding multiplayer in a future update, so far its just wishful thinking) with great visuals.

Also *** Minor Spoiler/not a spoiler kind of thing ****

What you get after completing the game is the chance to go back and re-play the islands from the main campaign.

Oh woot let me try to contain my enthusiasm.
