Product Description

Product Description

Jack doesn't know what he's got himself into. One minute he and his best friend Charlie were up in Chinatown having crispy duck with Charlie's dad (and Jack was having to listen to Charlie shouting at his dad for leaving his mum) - then next minute they were in a mysterious room above a theatre, with some of the strangest characters they'd ever encountered. And they were about to take The Test...and something very very weird was about to begin. The Test transformed Charlie - leaving him with the distinctive markings of the Black Tattoo - and with a temper that seemed out of control. The boys' meeting with Esme, a young girl with the most impressive martial arts skills this side of Bruce Lee, her huge and hairy father Raymond, and the mysterious Nick seemed to have swept Charlie and Jack into a world they had no idea existed. And it was only going to get stranger...This epic tale of good and evil, demons and hell, vomiting bats and huge battles marks the debut of an incredible new talent for children's books. Drawing on influences such as comic books, computer games and Eastern martial arts, "The Black Tattoo" is a book no self-respecting teenage boy will want to miss.

From the Back Cover

Esme’s hard brown hands lifted fractionally from her sides. Her amber
eyes glittered as she faced her enemy.
‘No tricks,’ said Esme. ‘No more lies. You and me are going to fight
this out to the finish. Right now.’

I gave this book to my 10 year old son to read at school. It has been passed on to lots of his friends and they all think it is fantastic! Challenging, fun, exciting and dark - perfect for 10 year olds, and older ones too!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excitement, 4 Jan 2006
By Mrs. Susan M. Hadley "thehadders" (England, Europe) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
As I write this review, listening to Queen and wearing a beret, I think of the time when I read an early draft of the first two thirds of this book. This means I haven't read a finished version, or a late version. I think what I read was a third draft, and there have been four or five at least since then, I think, and that very early draft blew me away. It was a brilliant rollercoaster ride from start to finish, and, I realise I'm not writing this very eloquently, it was incredibly enjoyable and had me waiting for the conclusion of each chapter. I'm looking forward to the publication just to find out what happens at the end and how it's been changed since my last read. Plus the author's a damn cool guy. This is a great read, and i reccommend a pre-order to anyone that reads this review.

5.0 out of 5 stars Top stuff, cool read for teen lads, 6 Feb 2009
This review is from: The Black Tattoo (Paperback)
This is a really gripping read for teenage lads or younger. I bought it for my nephew and it's gone down a treat. The writer has dead cool websites too so they can interact, ask questions and get more involved. Worth checking out.Tim: Defender of the Earth

2.0 out of 5 stars Fun but Formulaic
Good fun, moves at a decent pace, reasonable characters.
