the mighty burner 17 July 2009
Format:Audio CD
On this cd two of Charles Earland's greatest records for Prestige (released in 1969 and 1970) are paired. Especially "Black Drops" - which I first bought on vynil some 25 years ago - amazes me whenever I listen to it. The combination of Earland's organic burning, Jimmy Heath's powerful sax, Maynard Parker's incisive guitar and Jimmy Turner's impossible drumming makes you leave this planet. There's an intensity on this album - even on covers like the Bacharach tune "Raindrops Keep Falling on my Head" - that you won't find on many other jazz organ albums.

Charles Earland has been gone for almost ten years, but this music will live and burn forever.
