Product Description

Country was - and still is - one of the most passionately loved genres in music. Independent label Starday Records played a defining role in its history throughout the Fifties and Sixties. This two-disc collection contains some of Starday's best output from 1961 and '62, when the label was arguably at its peak. Enjoy the country tones of Clifton, West, Sovine et al, and transport yourself back to a more authentic era of US music.

5.0 out of 5 stars These truly are gems 23 Nov 2013
By Richard
The reviewer who writes "sadly cheap and boring" clearly doesn't deserve this CD and if his idea of country music is what goes down today then this is not the way to go about it.So why buy this CD?
The Starday catalogue passed from label to label and at one time was handled by Mercury
George Jones for instance started here on what was seen as the most important label for stone country

At this price you really cannot go wrong can you?
This is a two CD box set containing 40 tracks.
All are original tracks by the original artists so you are getting a whole lot of music for a really great price.

But Amazon have lumped all the tracks and artists together making it hard to actually decipher whats on the 2 CDs. So I've space them out and made it easier to read.
This is not a proper review just an aide to seeing whats on the CDs.

If you cut and paste don't include the last track on CD2.

1. Black Smoke - Bashful Brother Oswald
2. Hold Everything (Till I Get Home) - Red Sovine
3. Walking The Floor Over You - Justin Tubb
4. There Goes My Love - Buck Owens

11. Don't Go Out Tonight - The Stanley Brothers
12. Picture In The Wallet - Hylo Brown
13. Foolish Questions (Silly Answers) - Arthur 'Guitar Boogie' Smith
14. That Pal Of Mine - The Stoneman Family
15. Settin' My Tears To Music - Archie Campbell

I USED TO HAVE A LOT OF STARDAY SINGLES AND THIS DOUBLE CAPTURES SOME OF THEM. MANY SEEM TO BE DUBBED FROM 45s. BUT THEY ARE ACCEPTABLE. NOT THE BEST COLLECTION BUT IT'S A START.
