5.0 out of 5 stars Definately worth reading., 16 May 2001

This review is from: Black Salamander (Paperback)
Having read the entire collection I highly recommend Marilyn Todd's 'Black Salamander', which is the latest in her series of books featuring the superbitch heroine.

Black Salamander is set during the period of Augustus. Claudia sets out to Gaul carrying a peice of a map, which she believes will make her fortune but instead puts her in danger of becoming a victim of the Wicker Man.

Marilyn is an accomplished writer in the historical crime genre, which has a good dose of humour.

5.0 out of 5 stars A "hard-boiled" detective in ancient Rome!, 29 Dec 2000
Marilynn Todd's series of historical mysteries involving the nefarious Claudia Sefarious are incredibly enjoyable reading. The reader is constantly grateful for the period accuracy, yet relieved that the characters speak in modern no-nonsense terms. I could read one of these every day and never be bored.

Black Salamander
A Roman Murder Mystery
by Marilyn Todd

This book is number six in Todd's lively series featuring the feisty, racy Roman widow, Claudia Seferius. Truthfully, Todd's heroine seems like she belongs more to the 21th century world than Ancient Rome at the beginning of the first century C.E. But much of the historic details are accurate, and the books are fast paced and fun. Claudia is not one to sit around letting bad things happen to her even if they usually are a result of her own mismanaged life. Instead she jumps, and sometimes is forced, into seeking solutions to the murders an mysteries that seem to surround her. In this one, Claudia joins a trade delegation to Gaul, and then everything goes wrong......
